The one invented in the late 50s or early 60s was more compact and worked just as well.
Aside from weighing more and looking stupid, this one doesn’t seem to have much going for it.

...I got my doubts....the dream of jet pack flight has been going on since James Bond used one in Thunderball....the first Super Bowl did a jet pack demo at halftime.....for a while the Army was interested so you’d have thought that would have spurred development....so after all this time, today’s 250 lb. monstrosity is the best available???....maybe personal jet pack flight wasn’t wasn’t meant to be.

To be successful, these backpacks will have to be totally self stabilizing. The operator shouldn’t have to concentrate on flying to keep it from crashing. All the operator should have to do is move the control device in the direction they wish to go and the backpack should follow. The onboard computer keeps the device from crashing and getting out of control.

I presume the jet version can fly for more than the 90 seconds that the rocket packs do.

I found an article that indicates Glenn Martin is from New Zealand so I assume that he is no relation to Glenn L. Martin.
