There are so many natural variables that it is insane to try to claim that Man is definitely behind the full 1 degree rise in average surface temperatures over the past 100 years.

I agree.

I've always favored researching climate as I believe that knowledge will eventually be needed to cope with some eventual severe warming or cooling. But I don't believe we yet have any definitive knowledge.

Absolutely, climate is a terribly complex system. They just don't know what they don't know.
