LAKE LYNN, Pa. -- An 85-year-old great-grandmother from Lake Lynn, Fayette County kept an alleged burglar at bay using a .22-caliber pistol.

According to police, a 17-year-old suspect was attempting to burglarize Leda Smith overnight.

That's when Smith grabbed her gun and told the teen that she would shoot him if he moved, police said.

"I had the gun on him before he turned around and said, 'you've had it,' " Smith told Channel 11-News.

According to police, Smith ordered the boy to dial 911 and then gave him some advice.

"Dial 911 and don't attempt to throw the phone at me, or do anything bad or i'll just shoot you," Smith said.

When police arrived, they took the teen into custody.

Charges have been filed against the boy and an alleged accomplice.

A 22 cal auto with a 10 round clip (up close) would make the guy look like a colander in about 5 seconds. They tend to bounce around inside a body too.

Also, if you happen to live where you can own a suppressor, a .22 makes a dandy weapon. Personally my main home defense weapon is a 12GA, but I have a .45ACP 1911 and a suppressed .22 on tap. Everything else is in the vault.

I said it wouldn’t have been ‘my’ choice. At close range, the .22 can be effective for SD, but I happen to like things that make huge holes.

Considering her age, it’s just fine. My granny couldn’t handle a .45.

GO GRANN!

Plus, the .22 can truly by silenced, unlike larger calibers.

Mine has a .22 and a 3 legged 100lb plus black dog who can move really fast. My mom said she wouldn’t want to shoot anyone because she wouldn’t want to hit the dog and besides they wouldn’t need shooting after “Cowboy gets through with them”

AT a gun range used to go to in upper Palo Alto back in the mid 90’s, guys used to bring their 44 mags up there with the really hot loaded rounds.

They never hit a thing with them and burned the barrels out pretty quickly IIRC.

Similar thing with the guys who made really hot loads for their 22.50 rifles. Sure they bragged about 4000’/sec and then eroded/burned the barrels out fairly fast and ruined the rifle.

Never ever get into a contest with a grandma. You will lose, buster!
