'There's probably no God' slogan to be carried on City buses[UK]

Buses with the slogan 'There's probably no God' could soon be running on the streets of Britain.

The atheist posters are the idea of the British Humanist Association (BHA) and have been supported by prominent atheist Professor Richard Dawkins.

The BHA planned only to raise £5,500, which was to be matched by Professor Dawkins, but it has now raised more than £20,300 of its own accord.

It aims to have two sets of 30 bendy-buses carrying the signs for four weeks in London.

As the campaign has raised more than anticipated, it will also have posters on the inside of buses as well.

The BHA is also considering extending the campaign to cities including Birmingham, Manchester and Edinburgh.

The complete slogan reads: 'There's probably no God. Now stop worrying and enjoy your life.'

Professor Dawkins said: 'Religion is accustomed to getting a free ride - automatic tax breaks, unearned respect and the right not to be offended, the right to brainwash children.

'Even on the buses, nobody thinks twice when they see a religious slogan plastered across the side.

Buses with the controversial slogan could be on the roads from January

Prominent atheist Professor Richard Dawkins supports a bus campaign which tells passengers: 'There's probably no God. Now stop worrying and enjoy your life'

I’ve always wondered how someone as smart as Pascal could come to the conclusion he did with the Wager. The problem is that the probability matrix changes drastically with so many gods to choose from.

“The complete slogan reads: ‘There’s probably no God. Now stop worrying and enjoy your life.’ “

As suggested by a Christian radio personality this morning...

For real effect, put the sign on the FRONT of the bus!

Spending money on ads for something that doesn't exist? Truly the fool has said there is no God . . .

**Does anybody know of any of our enemies who DON’T support Ubama? They also wanted Kerry and Gore, too.**

If I live my life as if THERE IS a GOD, and find out there is NONE, I’ve lead a decent Life.

If I live my life as if there is NO GOD, and find out THERE IS, I May have some Explaining to do.

'There's probably no God'

That could also mean there's probably a God.

The irony of this, is that everyone hates the Bendy Buses.

I hope someone comes back with a slogan that reads...

The fool says in his heart, ‘There is no God.

would have to consult the london muslim population on how this is viewed. As you note, there are multiple reactions possible.

If there is no God, then I NEED to start worrying and can't enjoy my life. The silly thing is the article says "atheists" but the sign is clearly agnostic ("probably"), not atheist. Even atheists know they can't prove their emotional belief about God.

The key question for those who've rejected Him, regarding this slogan is:

What if you're wrong?

What does God’s existence have to do with how much I might worry and not enjoy my life? It’s these types of people that cause that, not God.

Well, I’d guess it’s stated like that for two reasons:

1) They’re British, and you know that nuanced, understated British humor.

2) It’s impossible to prove a negative. Saying that the existence of a higher being is impossible would be foolish, because, strictly speaking, one can never be totally certain. I am not a superstitious person, and certainly don’t believe in Christian mythology, but I wouldn’t ever state as fact that there is no god for the same reason one can’t rule out unicorns, psychics, or leprechauns.

...sadly, no amount of ‘splainin’ will help.

...and any ‘splainin’ submitted will only sound like weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Such decisiveness. Is it really true that Britain used to rule the world?

Guess Mr. Dawkins never hear of Blaise Pacal's Wager.

Lot of gods to choose from. Picking the wrong one risks really ticking off the right one - a woman scorned and all that

"For real effect, put the sign on the FRONT of the bus."

How about changing the word "God" to "Allah"?
