Steele Likely to Seek RNC Leadership Post
Fox News ^ | November 11, 2008 | Bill Sammon

Posted on 11/11/2008 2:05:16 PM PST by St. Louis Conservative

Michael Steele, former lieutenant governor of Maryland, has decided to run for the chairmanship of the Republican National Committee and is in talks with Newt Gingrich to win the former House speaker's endorsement, FOX News learned Tuesday.

Steele declined to comment, but a source close to the situation said Steele would announce his candidacy as early as Thursday.

The source also contradicted a report in Tuesday's Washington Times that Steele and Gingrich were competing for the RNC post.

"There is no fight," the source said. "This tension between Michael Steele and Newt Gingrich is totally fabricated and, in fact, Gingrich and Steele are working together to create a new strategy for the direction of the GOP."

We definately need Newt . Newt is a brilliant strategist and tactician .
Newt has been bad on some issues , but he knows how to win with fresh ideas that emanate from Conservatism . I hope that Newt will be in quite a bit of contact with Steele .

then he won the lieutenant governorship in a state with a 2 to 1 Democrat registration

You think he did that running to the right? Hardly

It’s too bad too because throughout this election cycle I have fervently wished that he could have been our first black president rather than the Ci-cago orator and cypher we now have. It’s like the first female Attorney General and the first female Secretary of State. Both were incompetent disasters.

Why should we be excited about Steele?

Because he's black fooolio, what's wrong you? Are you one of those realists or something insipid like that?

Isn't it neat how we are supposed to represent true conservatism here?

LMAO

Every conservative Republican should first read David Horowitz’s “ The Art of Political War”. Only then will we learn how to fight and win against the left.

Toss Judy Baar Topinka while you’re at it.

You are about 1000% correct on that one!

Most people don't realize that we got a Senator Obama, and now PE Obama, in large part because of the actions of IL "Republican" (cough, cough) Judy Barr Topinka.

She's a closet RAT, and IMO a plant. She should be tossed out on her butt.

Gimgrich is wrong on some issues like global warming but labeling him a RINO is too simplistic. I do agree with you that we need fresh faces. I like Newt working in the background.

Gingrich has too much baggage and talks a good game,

agree, he can not be the figure head.

but then tries to play up to Democrats. We don’t need him.

disagree. he's a conservative that won the congress on a pure conservative agenda. that qualifies him as platform consultant in my mind.

I've listened to interviews outside of the mainstream media and he thinks what I think with the exception he has influence whereas I have none.

He could not have done so in Maryland and won, but he and Ehrlich went as far as they could and they governed well. Because of the weight of Montgomery and Prince George’s counties when combined with Baltimore City, population-wise, you cannot run hard to the right state wide and win, even though you could carry 21 out of 23 counties.

I would prefer Newt.
Michael Steel is a little too loaw-key for the job.
He’ll be a 100000000% improvement on Mike Duncan, but a soggy towel would be an improvement over Duncan.

I hope Newt runs for president in 2012.
Even if he doesn’t get the nomination, he would raise the bar and make the GOP race about ideas and the future.

Can we stop the PANDER-fest now? Michael Steele is a MODERATE, moderate = RINO.

http://www.ontheissues.org/senate/Michael_Steele.htm

Also see my post 91 for his quote on Assault Weapons, a RINO who thinks the 2nd Amendment is about hunting.

NO WAY to Michael Steele, or should he be Michael Jelly? No RINO’s.

Stick a fork in us here....we’re done.

You can say that again. There is nothing conservative about Palin or Steele. If this is what the Republicans plan to offer up, I will gladly continue on my present course seeking solace in a 3rd party.

That such as these are touted as Conservatives by FREEPERS, who should know the difference, just amazes me.

Who is Mike Duncan and why has the RNC Chairmanship been empty the last year or so?

Newt Gingrich gives me the creeps.

Me too! But he knows where all the bodies are buried, and would be a good "mentor" for Steele! I think this arrangement might just work for the betterment of the party. Something sure has to!

“The selection for this job is extremely important. Before naming the person we need to set out what we want. For instance, we want and need:
1. one who is a proven leader.
2. able to organizes professionals and volunteers into motivated campaigners, people who work with a passion for conservatism.
3. a record of training and supervising an army of effective fund raisers.
4. able to expound the conservative cause without looking over the shoulder, no PC, speak the truth loud and clear. No weaseling around and parching of words.”

In other words, the best leader in the country must step forward. The record of experience in all categories is vitally important

I agree, and I think this is Newt.
