Sarah Palin’s failure set to reap her $7m book deal
The Sunday Times ^

Posted on 11/15/2008 2:17:25 PM PST by mathwhizz

She failed to save John McCain from presidential election doom, but Sarah Palin, the Republican senator’s controversial running mate, may yet emerge as the saviour of the American publishing industry. Literary agents are queueing up to sign her to a book deal that could earn her up to $7m.

With Barack Obama’s election victory certain to generate dozens of volumes from politicians, strategists and journalists – and with another shelfload of memoirs expected from members of President George W Bush’s administration – Palin’s personal account of her tumultuous introduction to national politics is widely regarded as the book most likely to repay a multi-million-dollar advance.

“She’s poised to make a ton of money,” said Howard Rubenstein, New York’s best-known public relations adviser.

“Every publisher and a lot of literary agents have been going after her,” added Jeff Klein of Folio Literary management.

Yeah, as soon as I hear massive screams from the drive bys on mongo amounts of money that Obozo Shillary, and Clinton made on their boring books, then I will listen to this nonsense.

I’m not criticizing her, I am just saying that the ridiculous attacks made her support much stronger than it would have been. I got chills during her RNC speech, but it was the aftermath that made many, many more people lifelong supporters and admirers. She is an incredible woman.

I am beginning to despise anything that comes out of British media. The purpose of this article was to, again, denigrate a "Thatcher type" conservative.

Great Britain is lost...you just can't see it yet.

Please don't bother to ask us to save your socialist ever-increasing Sharia-law accomodating sorry asses ever again. Fight your own frigging wars............and they will come.

I hope that Obama cuts you off in his quest for world Marxism. I am starting to hope you are the first to go. Screw you.

I wish it weren’t true-—but I have read this in several places, including pro-Sarah websites. I think Sarah deserves every penny she can get. That’s why I’m hoping she can get around this law by sending money into a PAC.

I’m a member of TeamSarah and we’ve talked about it in chat. It’s one of those ethical reforms brought in in Alaska that forbids the governor, lt. governor, and state legislatures from earning money for other ventures.

PLEASE somebody prove this wrong!

Me too. I will buy an extra copy for my Dad to read and share with all of his buddies and then send my copy (after my cross street neighbor reads it) to get sent on the rounds of my family. We will want everyone who can read to have this book on their night table at some point in time. And for those who can’t wait for my copy...buy your own. It helps Sarah.

Actually she told both Wolf Blitzer and Larry King that if the door opened to the Senate seat (they asked about that specifically) and Alaskans wanted her to take it, she would not refuse. She would not appoint herself but would not rule out running in a special election sometime next year for it. She may have also gotten some encouragement from the RNC who does not want to lose the seat to a Democrat and probably felt she could win it.

For the record, I think she should remain the governor and finish her term no matter what happens with Stevens.

That law is open to interpretation. The main purpose of it is to bar outside employment. Like if she was the governor and also an executive at BP or something. Obviously in an energy rich state, that would create lots of conflicts.

But is writing a book outside employment? The legislature or the Alaska courts may have to clarify that for her before she proceeds with this.

she deserves it after the meanest media attack of my life.

obamao got rich off his books.

Absolutely. My thoughts exactly. She deserves it, and I’ll be one of the first to buy her book.

She also needs to do something similar to husseinobama and other lefties: write a book about her vision for the future U.S. with a catchy title, being sure to use the buzzwords of “audacity”, “hope”, and “change”. Something like:

“The Audacity That Is America - how traditional American values of individualism, economic liberty, and political freedom, are globalism’s best hope for positive change in the 21st century” by Sarah Palin, Governor of Alaska. Or,

“Energy Independence in Today’s Globalist Information Society: How America’s Traditional Audacity and Inventiveness Prove That Economic Freedom and Political Liberty Can Change the World for the Better, and Provide Hope for Everyone” by Sarah “Barracuda” Palin, Governor of Alaska. Available now at Borders Books and Barnes & Noble.

I like it.

You could almost put the words “Hope”, “Change”, and “Audacity” on a dart board and choose their order by randomly throwing darts at it. They really all say the same thing; i.e., nothing. But the point, you see, is to (i) sell the book, and (ii) keep Sarahcuda in the news as a high-profile candidate.

We could have a little contest here on FR for titles and send them on to Sarahcuda. She’ll pay attention.

I sent a long email to her last week with some ideas. She should follow in Reagan’s footsteps by establishing herself as an ideological, principled spokesperson for conservatism. She might consider a monthly radio address over Sirius-XM radio (despite the news of satellite radio’s economic woes, the subscriber base is growing and will continue to do so) to escape any possible dilution from a reimposition of the Fairness Doctrine. She should also start her own Internet Blog with a monthly article on her ideas regarding issues of national AND INTERNATIONAL importance: war on terror, border issues, high finance, education, and of course, energy production. This would give her time to research these issues, consult with experts ideologically consistent with her way of thinking, etc., so that she can decide what she really thinks about these things.

Come to think of it, why wait for her to establish such a site? We can start such a site for ourselves and solicit statements or brief articles from rising stars in conservatism: Palin, Jindal, Bachman, Cantor, etc. They might actually be more amenable to something like this, rather than have to go through the hassle of creating and maintaining such a site for themselves. This would also allow us and other conservatives to compare directly what Palin thinks about, for example, immigration to what Jindal thinks about it.

*************************** I can't prove you wrong. But I was presumptuous enough to write her a letter. And I recommended she cash in on her celebrity, but give the procceds to Alaska and a Special Needs Fund.

IMHO, she has to come in 2012, not a millionaire. Newt Gringrich cashed in with a book immediately, within weeks after the GOP Congressional takeover. The media was merciless.

Gov. Palin will get great political mileage out of donating her money to the State and children- while, at the same time, getting out her political message. If not, the media will skewer her every time she tries to speak to "being of the people" - her greatest political asset.

She can cash in any time.

Thanks, mathwhiz. I really hope there’s a loophole for her somewhere. After what she’s been through, she deserves to capitalize where she can. Plus, it could be an extremely interesting read if everything comes out. I think, though, that Sarah is too classy to throw the campaign under the bus (even though many involved deserve it).

I’m still laughing at a lib who said to me when we said we lived in Saskatchewan for awhile..

I know what you mean. I lived in El Paso for 15 years. At a reunion, I was asked if I made it to Dallas often.

You can imagine his surprise when I informed him that El Paso is 600+ miles from Dallas.

Libs generally don't know jack about geography.

LMBO, as if she were responsible for John’s winning. No, John was. The guy didn’t pass muster. Palin did.

Book deal? Most excellent!

obamao got rich off his books.

IIRC, I heard The ObamaMessiah saying he got $4,000,000 in royalties
last year.
Yep, four million dollars.

This from a guy and gal with paltry charitable contributions.
"Spread The Wealth Around"...that's for suckers!!!
