Frum is frightened for the GOP

Harrison spoke about the descent of intellectual conservatism. Here’s another example of it in David Frum’s resignation from National Review. Like some other conservative intellectuals, Frum criticized the Palin pick this election. After seeing fellow National Reviewers Kathleen Parker eviscerated for the same offense, Frum followed Chris Buckley’s lead and resigned from National Review writing.

In a New York Times interview, he said a little distance will help people keep their heads:

I am really and truly frightened by the collapse of support for the Republican Party by the young and the educated … The answers to the Republican dilemma are not obvious and we need a vibrant discussion. I think a little more distance can help everybody do a better job of keeping their temper.

I think intolerance for dissent—exactly the kind that Parker, Frum and Buckley experienced—may be perpetuating the dilemma. It’s impossible to have a “vibrant discussion” when someone who offers a dissenting view is told they should have been aborted, like Parker was. This intolerance especially repulses the young (not known for cherishing orthodoxy) and the educated (who presumably like “vibrant discussion”).

I see. The GOP can drift so far left that they adopt global warming platforms, that they sue the f*** out of the tobacco industry, that they support trillion dollar socialist bailouts, that they will push amnesty down America’s throat, that they continue to pay ACORN and Planned Parenthood millions each year and yet you are going to grovel before these chumps. No problem. Maybe you can work on McCain’s staff, who seems busy working these days on Obama’s ‘staff’.

Unfortunately, America is in the 9th stage of Societal failure. They are firmly in the “Apathy” stage. (Which includes Conservatives and Republicans.)

The last and final stage is “Tyranny” and “Oppression”.

But then, on a more positive note, that leaves us just 1 stage away from starting the process all over again. And, since the process usually takes 200 years to complete, there is hope ahead.

The nice part about America and its patriots is that teh tyranny phase will last all of a week before the tree of liberty is watered.

I see the rebuilding process to have a quick beginning like you do. It will take a complete and utter failure like the one we are headed for, in order for us to remove the RINOs like McCain and his ilk.

Also, every generation has a tendency to rebel against the status quot. With the Socialist/Marxists in control, they will be easily and quickly rejected by the coming generations. Conservatism will come back around full circle, initiated by our youth.

Once again, your very arguable GOP-glass-half-empty comments are deflecting from the point I made, which is that third parties are a waste of time that enable the socialists to divide and conquer.

Senator Jim DeMint, Senator Tom Coburn, Rep Shadegg, Rep John Carter, Rep Jeb Hensarling, didnt sign up for any of those things you mention. Support them and encourge them to stop Obama’s socialism. Nobody else will.

" The ONE silver lining on this cloud is that we have an EXCELLENT example to throw back in the faces of the moderates - "If only you nominated a RINO/moderate, you'd win more voters". It was proven fasel. ... I think we will NOT try that strategy again... I am hearing universal calls from the GOP ledership and the base to return to conservative principles and to have elected Republicans who act in a way that lives up to those principles.

Here in my neck of the woods (central Texas) McCain ran weaker than other candidates, like Cornyn. That wasnt the statewide experience, which put them both in the 54% - 55% range, but it clearly shows that the McCain ticket was not in any way shape or form more popular than other Republican contenders.

We need competent, honest, principled, articulate, conservative leadership.

I’d bet Duncan Hunter would eviscerate Frum and any other sniveling twit RINO who shares that philosophy in any forum (written or oral) which required the exchange of ideas and principles. The GOP, as it is constituted today, has few, if any of the latter, and even fewer of the former. I believe the GOP can be reconstituted with the prodding of a lot of us who share similar views. We need bold leadership..not just old leadership.

And as for the youth...see Hillsdale College...and any Young Republican club at a institution of higher learning run by the whack job libs. Bottle that frustration and enthusiasm...blend it with a message of God, country, constitution as it was written, not interpreted, security (strong cops, strong borders, strong military), free markets, domestic energy independence using all our resources, low tax rates, back to basics education, roll back of politically based regulation, and an emphasis on personal responsibility rather than expansion of a nanny state and this message will win.
