Believers dispute divine role in victory of president-elect
Did God play a role in the election of Barack Obama, and could the Democrat even be God's sovereign choice for our next president?
The answers to those questions vary widely, depending on who is doing the answering.
Among those praising the heavens for Obama's victory was Larry Younginer of suburban Atlanta, who the Chicago Tribune reports kneeling at his church and praying the day after Obama's victory.
"Lord, we have again come to you," Younginger prayed, "and you have heard our cries from heaven, and you have sent us again from the state called Illinois a man called Barack to heal our land."
The Rev. Randolph Bracy Jr. at New Covenant Baptist Church of Orlando, told the Orlando Sentinel that the victory of a young and inexperienced Obama was like the victory of the biblical boy, David, over the giant, Goliath.
"God knew what he put in David," Bracy said. "God knew what he put in Obama."
"Things like this just don't happen, they don't just come about," Bracy told his congregation. "This is the Lord's doing, and it is miraculous in our eyes."
Many preachers and online commentators have pointed to select biblical passages that suggest God determines the winners of elections, such as Romans 13, which states, "There is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God."
Others, however, have been swift to argue that just because an event happens doesn't mean God willed it. Humans, they say, make choices that determine their destiny.

What I wonder is what sort of situation do we have here where so terribly many descendants of recent slaves are giving thanks for the arrival of a man in the Presidency whose tribe were infamous in the slave trade.
Don't maybe some of them suspect it wasn't God getting their prayers and such?
Sometimes God would punish Israel for disobedience or for turning from him.
I guess it is possible he is punishing the United States by giving us Obama.
God has chosen a corrupt Chicago street thug to be the leader?

Whether Obama is God's choice or not, it is our responsibility to pray for him.
I also believe that God could punish us for turning our backs on Him.

Obama God’s choice? If only to bring America into judgment, then the answer is yes.
No Suspicion. It can’t be.. he’s one them. Which is how their ancestors ended up on a ship headed here in the first place.
Obama is a enemy of Christ (at this point) his position on abortion alone disqualifies him from the Christian faith (at this point)
Obama is President elect only because there where not enough Christians in the USA to elect McCain/Palin.
No Christians voted for Obama! Sure they may say they where Christians but are not if they voted for That One!!! No exceptions.
This point bears repeating.
There was a pharoah and then Herod who felt threatened by God or God's people, and that resulted in the death of babies at their hands.
I don't see a great deal of hope in a man who views innocent babies as punishment, worthy of a death sentence.
I think I'm gonna puke.
