Overview and Special Image Selection

The 7 December 1941 Japanese raid on Pearl Harbor was one of the great defining moments in history. A single carefully-planned and well-executed stroke removed the United States Navy's battleship force as a possible threat to the Japanese Empire's southward expansion. America, unprepared and now considerably weakened, was abruptly brought into the Second World War as a full combatant.

I read “With the Old Breed” when it came out, about 25 years ago, I think, and I still remember it. Eugene Sledge has also also appeared in a number of different documentaries over the years, and his experiences are even more vivid when he recounts them on screen.

Another good book, if you haven’t already read it, is “Goodnight Darkness” by William Manchester.

He is a lib (or was) but I sure do respect him for his service, and he did write a great biography of Winston Churchill “The Last Lion”.

I have a very good book on Pearl Harbor called: “Attack on Pearl Harbor: A Pictorial History” by Stan Cohen.

I happened to see it in a book store on the sale rack for $14.95. It has many, many pictures I have never seen, and I am well read on Pearl Harbor. If you can find it in your library network, I would suggest checking it out.
