absolutely hilarious; these guys seem to have mistaken cause and effect
the 'iceball earth' period ended because of greenhouse gases, it wasn't caused by them.
Sheesh! It's very simple:
  1. something happens - like a meteorite impact - to blot out the sun and drop the temperature
  2. this lasts long enough to trigger an ice age
  3. rainfall stops, which is the major way that greenhouse gases such as CO2 are removed from the atmosphere
  4. but volcanos continue to spew CO2 et al into the atmosphere
  5. after a few hundred million years, the concentration of greenhouse gases is so high a venus-like greenhouse effect occurs
  6. this melts the ice, ending the ice age, restarting the rain cycle, and removing the excess greenhouse gases from the atmosphere
  7. the planet cools back down to a habitable temperature quite rapidly (in geologic time)

You beat me to it. I would only add that the CO2 concentration that ended the “snowball earth” periods was hundreds or thousands of times higher than today.

Also, none of this is really new, snowball earth theory has been around for decades - so what have these researchers discovered?
