The growth in the area of the Southern Ocean covered by sea ice over the past 30 years disproves a new theory based on computer modelling of invented temperatures that suggests the Antarctic has been warming over the past 50 years, says a new paper published today by the Science and Public Policy Institute – a Washington, D.C. research organization.
A recent paper in Nature has suggested that the Antarctic had not been cooling for half a century, though temperature measurements taken by research stations on the ice-bound continent had long shown cooling.
Christopher Monckton, the paper's author, said: "The Arctic has been warming, and there has been some loss of sea ice there, particularly in recent summers. This demonstrates the unsurprising real-world conclusion that warming melts ice. If there had been warming in Antarctica too, the area of the Southern Ocean covered by sea ice would have shrunk over the 30 years since the satellites have been watching. Instead, the extent of Antarctic sea ice has grown – and it has grown fast enough to match the decline in the extent of Arctic sea ice. That means the Arctic has been warming and the Antarctic has been cooling."
One of the authors of the paper suggesting "warming" of the Antarctic was Michael E. Mann of Pennsylvania State University. Dr. Mann had been the lead author of a paper also published in Nature in 1998-9, in which similar purely statistical techniques had been used to alter the temperature record. On that occasion, Dr. Mann purported to abolish the medieval warm period, when temperatures worldwide were warmer than the present. Now, he and his colleagues are attempting to abolish the cooling of Antarctica, which, like the medieval warming, suggests that the official "global warming" theory has some large gaps in it.
"Finally," said Monckton, "there has been a global cooling trend throughout the eight years of George Bush's presidency, though most media have somehow not reported the cooling. It would be remarkable if Antarctica, where the thermometers show temperatures plunging, had somehow bucked the global trend towards cooler weather."
Added an actual Antarctic researcher, "I feel your study is absolutely wrong. With statistics you can make numbers go to almost any conclusion you want. It saddens me to see members of the scientific community do this for media coverage."

In late January 2009, the once-respected “science” journal Nature published the results of a computer model apparently showing that nearly all of the Antarctic continent had not cooled over the past 50 years, as the real-world observational data showed, but had warmed instead. The newly-created “warming” was achieved not by direct observation, which has long produced inconvenient cooling, but by “statistical climate-field-reconstruction techniques to obtain a 50-year-long, spatially complete estimate of monthly Antarctic temperature anomalies.”
The authors used “the special covariance structure of the surface temperature field to guide interpolation of the ... records of ... temperature from occupied weather stations,” on the ground that, “although it has been suggested that such interpolation is unreliable owing to the distances involved, large spatial scales are not inherently problematic if there is high spatial coherence, as is the case in continental Antarctica.”
The “reconstructions” were said to “demonstrate” warming of 0.17 °C/decade over the past 50 years in West Antarctica, 0.10 in East Antarctica and 0.12 continent-wide; however, their own analysis, when tested against detrended data, found that the continent-wide warming was not demonstrably different from zero.
The international alarmist movement swung swiftly and expensively into action, actively supported by the more scientifically-illiterate news media, to say that the “warming” of Antarctica, illustrated in the widely-reproduced “before-and-after” images above, “proved” that “global warming” was truly global after all. The usual solemn warnings about the need for urgent and costly action to close down the economies of the West were added.

Ever notice how much of this “data” and “research” involving temperatures is just pure BS created by the “global warmers?” These people need to be arrested for their participation in this scam and hoax.
The parts of Antarctica that have experienced measurable warming are the same parts of Antarctica that have been experiencing volcanic activity...

"Figures don't lie but liars figure." Seem true.
A lot of global warming publications love to leave out any mention of geothermal activity and/or volcanic activity.
I happen to reside in Washington State. The #1 polluter in our state for the last 29 years has been Mount Saint Helens. It creates more pollution than #2-10 combined.
It is flat out deceitful to call something a scientific study on nature when natural phenomena are selectively covered up and suppressed.

It seems that men were altering the data and these were the men that created global warming out of thin air! Hence, "man made" global warming! Or should that be "Mann made" global warming?
Well, I can't say they lied about the name, they told everyone straight out.
My (very) liberal sister is raising her boys to be very liberal, activist, metrosexual types. It’s a shame, as the oldest boy showed signs of having a very good scientific mind. Unfortunately, activists make very poor scientists. A true scientist says “let’s follow the data and see where it leads.” An activist says “let’s create a study that proves.....” All objectivity is lost. There is very little true scientific study done any more.
