Actually volcanoes tend to cool the earth—ash in the air reflecting sunlight before it can heat up the surface and lower atmosphere.

Serious global cooling would actually be a disaster, far more dangerous than global warming. Still, if we have to have a planet-wide disaster, an ice age, or even a second little ice age would be a source of grim delight for those of us who have repeatedly pointed out that AGW is bunk.
