It is obviously something, but not necessarily Atlantis. While I think it unlikely it was made up, it probably was another civilization with similar characteristics.

However, I do want to believe in a literal Atlantis. :)

Nevertheless, I can’t see this photo NOT being something man-made. What in nature could create all those perfect grid patterns?

At the end of the article is this excerpt:

Google today claimed the criss-crossing lines were sonar data collected as boats mapped the ocean floor.

But the internet giant said “blank spots” within the lines could not be explained.

A spokeswoman said: “Bathymetric (or sea floor terrain) data is often collected from boats using sonar to take measurements of the sea floor.

“The lines reflect the path of the boat as it gathers the data.

“The fact that there are blank spots between each of these lines is a sign of how little we really know about the world’s oceans.”

I don't really understand what they're saying here. Are they saying that the grid is actually just an ARTIFACT of the sonar sounding process?

God.

It's not like He hasn't shown us precedents for His affinity for geometric shapes.

I'm a believer in the prehistoric civilization of Atlantis;
but this ain't it, or even part of it.
The cheesy article gives a clue at the end concerning the imagery:

“Google today claimed the criss-crossing lines were sonar data collected as boats mapped the ocean floor.
But the internet giant said ‘blank spots’ within the lines could not be explained.
A spokeswoman said: ‘Bathymetric (or sea floor terrain) data is often collected from boats using sonar to take measurements of the sea floor.
THE LINES REFLECT THE PATH OF THE BOAT as it gathers the data.
The fact that there are blank spots between each of these lines is a sign of how little we really know about the world’s oceans.’”

The lines are perpendicular because the survey vessel(s) followed 90 degree azimuths. If the vessel(s) had overlapped the courses, we would see a rectangular area that appears uniformly rough like each of the lines.

This looks like some sort of cold war relic. Perhaps the remains of an antenna array for very low frequency communication.

I don't usually put much credence in crypto-science sorts of things, loch ness, ufo's... and such. But Atlantis is one that I've always found to be intriguing.

It's not only possible, but I'd say probable that there have been any number of "civilized" groups of people that have flourished at one time or another, but whose existence has since been lost to history. It just isn't unrealistic at all that someplace called Atlantis was once a rich and successful place. It's also conceivable that such a place could have suffered a great cataclysm of some kind. It's happened in other places.

I wonder what sorts of records and histories were lost in Alexandria during its various burnings. Imagine if we had all those records now. It might turn a great many theories about the ancient world upside down.
