Roger Stone: Steele Misunderstands Role
NewsMax ^ | March 4, 2009 | Rick Pedraza

Political analyst and commentator Roger Stone blames Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele’s shaky start on not understanding his role as chairman of all Republicans.

In an exclusive Newsmax interview, Stone chastises Steele for suggesting he'd work against GOP rogue Senators Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania, and Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins of Maine in the upcoming 2010 primaries because of their votes for the “so-called stimulus” bill.

“It is not the national chairman’s job to weed people out of the party,” Stone tells Newsmax TV. “It’s his job to bring people into the party. The National Chairman’s role is to unite the party and mediate between the factions. It is not to write people out of the party and make the party narrower based. Steele needs to understand his role as National Chairman: he is the chairman of all Republicans, regardless of stripe. I would remind you of Ronald Reagan’s 11th Commandment: ‘Thou Shalt Not Speak Ill of Thy Brother Republican.’”

Stone objects to Steele writing Specter, Snowe and Collins out of the Republican Party by threatening to withhold party funds for their reelection campaigns, and doing so in a very flippant way.

Michael Steele needs to step down before he does more damage to the Party. He is making a fool of himself and only weakening our chances for the next election. We need someone the head up the RNC who knows what the hell he is doing before it's too late.

Steele should call it a career and return to Maryland.

What Steele can’t do is Volunteer stupid comments like he did about Rush while on CNN with D.L. Hughley. Why he went on the show at all is a mystery.

It is just as much the Republican party as Steele. The party as a whole tolerates and encourages RINO behavior.

This time around, they went for RINO Steele and a "showcase" black, presumably immune to the race card, what they thought was a brilliant twofer.

Double the RINO, double the fun, two holes bleeding the GOP, instead of one.

The bottom line, Republicans are finished, and the Rats are out of control criminals. It will not go unnoticed.

It quite obviously isn’t his job to go on TV and debate all kinds of crap with failed comedians like DJ Hughley.

His job is to rebuild party infrastructure. WTH is this guy doing on TV everyday? He’s a moron.

I didn't even know that DJ Hughley had a talk show on CNN until Steele went on the show.

Isn’t Roger Stone the guy who, with his wife, was caught advertising for other “swinging couples” about 15 years ago?

Who the hell is Roger Stone? I’d give you 10 Stones for 1 Steele. Granted Steele has had some serious missteps but he’s no RINO. I wonder if anyone really read this article. Stone is criticizing Steele for saying the RNC might not support Specter Snowe and Collins. Is everyone on hear joining in the criticism of Steele agreeing with Stone? I don’t think so. Those 3 stooges are RINO’s...not Michael Steele.

Sounds to me like Steele is on the right track with that action.

Roger Stone was caught a few years back placing an photo ad in a swinger's magazine, wasn't he?

I’ve emailed Chairman Steele a few times and pointed him in the direction of writing ‘Rules for Conservatives’ to offset Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals.

Democrats are still comparing themselves to Congresses under the Bush administration. They’re living in the past and it would be great if the GOP/RNC took the initiative to come forward on the attack rather than back peddling.

If the GOP tries to play the “man in the middle” they will lose their Conservative Base. The GOP and RNC must present themselves to the Voting Public as the defenders of The Constitution.
