Article 2, section 1 of the Constitution states, "No person except a natural born citizen, or a citizen of the United States at the time of the adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the office of president; neither shall any person be eligible who shall not attained to the age of thirty-five years, and been fourteen years a resident within the United States."

The pertinent part is underlined. The Founders wrote themselves a "grandfather clause" so that they would be eligible to run for President since their parents were foreign born. Otherwise the clause would be redundant. They did not want men of divided loayalties serving.

If I recall, most of the Framers were born on what would eventually become US soil - i.e. the Colonies.

Yes, EVENTUALLY become US soil. But it WASN'T US soil at the time they were born. It was British soil. And at the time of their birth, they were natural born subjects of England, and had no other citizenship until we declared independence, at which time they became United States citizens. But they weren't natural born citizens of the United States because that requires being born in the United States.

Hence, given the natural born citizen clause of Article II, they had to make an exception for themselves so they didn't have to wait around for thirty five years or more before this country could elect a President.

Some of them were born overseas England, Ireland?, Scotland? - boy I'm rusty in the memory department.

No one who was ever elected President was. And they would have been no less "foreign born" than if they'd been born in Virginia, or Pennsylvania, as they were all part of England.

The Framers were excluding those with allegiances to foreign countries from the point of the signing of the Constitution forward.

And that's why they excluded naturalized citizens from holding the office of President. And even this came straight out of the English common law as English common law also excluded naturalized subjects from certain political offices, such as the Privy Council and Parliament.

No. They wrote it because to be a natural born citizen of any country, you have to be born in that country. None of the founders were born in the United States. The founders were natural born subjects of England, and only later became citizens of the United States after independence was declared.

I have posted in other threads as well—I’m not a one-issue poster—it’s merely that this issue has come up in more than one thread IN THE SAME DAY, and I find the way people approach it to be inadequate.

But I will say this much: in each thread I have at least attempted to make my argument cogently, without venom, (until someone heaps invective my way) and have recommended alternate strategies through which to make useful headway on the matter.

You, on the other hand—and many in the other thread who unfortunately spout the same inane replies—seem to consist of “lol, ure an Obamabot noob and troll heheh”. As a veteran of this message board, I would expect more from you, because that is an awful excuse for a good response. Missouri does not have such a bill. The bill has been introduced. It hasn't passed, and probably won't. This is the first I've heard that Oklahoma passed such a bill......are you sure?

Because it's the only issue that interests me enough to spend any significant amount of time discussing. And it interests me on a number of levels, i.e. graphics, law, the Constitution. Also, it's not a purely political issue as so many other things are. I got rather burned out discussing politics some years ago.

I am of the opinion that the COLB scan was produced from the same piece of paper that is in the factcheck photographs. If that is the case, then there isn't much to be gained by making claims about the scan unless they apply to the physical piece of paper in the photographs as well. I know, I know. My crime is that I didn't drink the Polarik Punch. Polarik's work doesn't pass the sniff test. Are we to treat him the same way that MSNBC treats Obama? That whole concept makes me ill. Polarik's work should have been vetted a long time ago.

I want to see Zero's documents, especially the college records and passport(s). Almost everything about the guy is either a fairy tale or a nightmare. I do not trust the BC he has trotted out. However, most of the allegations of photoshopping are almost certainly just wishful thinking.

On it’s face what is frivolous about it? The guy has yet to produce a birth certificate, and long before he ran for president, a lot of news reports, including from Kenya, claimed that he was born in Kenya. There is no evidence that his mother took the proper steps to register his foreign birth, if he was born in Kenya. I’m not saying it is a winner; however, the cases that I have seen brought that didn’t get rule 11 sanctions, make this case look like a slam dunk.

From what I have read of this particular judge, the planitiff’s could have produced a Kenyan birth certificate and an affidavit from the Dept. of Health in Hawaii, saying that Barry wasn’t born in the state, and he still would have ordered sanctions as a means of disuading others from attempting to obtain a copy of Barry’s Birth Certificate.
