Senator Dodd admitting lying the other day - actually knowing about the stimulus bill allowances for AIG execs to receive bonuses from taxpayer dollars - came as really no surprise considering how he receives more financial backing from banking interests and lobbyists than any other politician (second to him in the Senate was Obama).
HR 1586 is tantamount to political theater when considering its loopholes; HR 1586 is ridden by constitutional questions on whether it is a bill of attainder or even an ex post facto law - at the very least it's an under-the-table "mea culpa" by the Dems to claim they're correcting a problem "they didn't cause in the first place"; HR 1586 is unprecedented legislation forcing a congressional issue when the executive branch has the constitutional authority to get back 100% of the TARP funds used for exec bonuses.
Utterly unconstitutional thuggery, typical of our dem-run house and senate. And the folks out there who are just tickled to death about “getting even” with the AIG bonus recipients...don’t laugh TOO hard. Soon it’ll be your turn to have your money/property confiscated “for the greater good” or “in the name of fairness.”
There's a big problem with our system when Chris Dodd can receive over $100,000 from AIG and be responsible for writing the regulations for the banking industry. Since Congress writes the laws, they've made it legal for themselves to get what is effectively a kickback or bribe.
Barney Frank is taking money hand over fist from Fanny Mae and Freddy Mac and then funneling taxpayer money to them.
John Murtha is taking money under the table (allegedly) and then reimbursing people and organizations that made campaign contributions to him.
Obama also profited from this. He's the one who ultimately signed the bill that gave AIG billions in tax dollars and he got $103,000 in contributions from them.
It's pretty ironic that these guys are the ones screaming about ethics and fiscal responsibility.
How many people will have any confidence in signing ANY kind of contract for employment, when later—6 months —24 months—60 months—whatever— the government can come along and alter the terms of that contract?
Are they going to go after signing bonuses used in the military? In sports? Anywhere?
This is a perfect example of the fact that no one in the government at any level understands how business is run.
NObama is driving this country off the rails with more destruction than Nero watching Rome burn while fiddling.
These guys and gals created the mess, when word "leaked" out (presumably to find another tar baby to punch)both houses are "shocked, shocked," in front of cameras, that those raises were part of the bill.
Either these bast@@ds put it in on purpose so as to include a retro-pay increase for themselves without voting, or they didn't. Which means that none of them actually read what they were voting for!
Take your pick you crooks either you participated in one of the worst ripoffs or you shirked your duty to know what is in each bill that you sign off on.
Thank heavens that there were some "honest" people who voted against everything from start to finish -- everyone else should be run out of Washington once and for all.
