That's EXACTLY what I was thinking. Didn't I read that it "might" be possible to create oil from methane using high temp and pressure? If so wouldn't that imply that oil might be forming deep withing the earth?

Just wondering.

High temperatures and pressures break down oil into smaller molecules, not the opposite.

We do it in refineries today; it is called thermal cracking. We use it to break down more of the heavy hydrocarbons into lighter ones like those in gasoline and diesel.
