This was terrific in that they saw the meteor heading toward Earth, did all the calculations they'd set up to track them, and found it was going to hit the Earth. They got the location and the time almost PERFECT!

One scientist, knowing that it would be coming down in the middle of the sparsely populated desert, contacted KLM Airlines, who he knew flew in that area. Two pilots on a Johannesburg to Amsterdam flight got the message and at the predicted time, kept a look out for the meteor, and though they didn't see the actual explosion after it entered the atmosphere, they did see the bright glow of it over the horizon.
