If the US government is going to toss around trillions of dollars, then I think tossing a few hundred billion at Fusion would seem to make as much sense as anything else.

That question was put to Rep. Henry Waxman during his committee hearings. He said nuclear produced waste and did not qualify as "renewables" or green for the purposes of stimulus $.
