The last time Mt St Helens went off . . . we had darkness in mid-day and stayed inside with mother-in-law extra days at the end of her visit.

Toba, the last one, left only 2-10,000 people alive on the whole earth....75k years ago. My personal opinion is that this idea is not very credible. There is little actual evidence to back it up. I don't find the genetic "evidence", by itself, at all convincing.
