Climate Change Hearing Turns Stormy
Siobhan Hughes reports on energy policy.
A Senate hearing over climate-change legislation took an emotional turn today, when the head of a top black business group accused the chairwoman of being condescending and racial.
Tensions had been building between the head of the National Black Chamber of Commerce, Harry Alford, and Senate Environment and Public Works Chairman Barbara Boxer, who is seeking to pass legislation to impose mandatory greenhouse-gas reductions.
The California Democrat said energy investments are creating jobs in her state, but Alford testified that he saw no evidence that energy investments are creating jobs. Ive been looking - I havent seen them yet, he said. The last time I checked, California is an economic basket case and these green jobs arent going to solve it.
Boxer responded: I want you to come with me. Lets go see these jobs you say dont exist.
She then put into the record a statement from a member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People related to the merits of energy investment. Alford objected. Thats condescending and I dont like it, Alford said. Its racial. I take offense to that.
He said that quoting some other black man is racial, appearing to suggest that his arguments about the economic effects of climate change legislation should be taken on their own terms rather than in the context of race. Were talking energy, he said. The road the chair went down I think is God awful.

The Freepathon is still going strong. Let's put an end to it.
The following is directed to Freepers who haven't donated or signed up for monthlies yet...
is good. 100% is better. You know you're going to do it. Pull the trigger! You don't have to pay it all now. $5 now, $25 next week, $10 later... keep the ball rolling.
Monthly donorship is a good way for us to avoid having to do the Freepathons. Besides, it's a great way to pony up in style.
If you're on the verge of becoming a monthly donor or you think you would like to up your monthly donation a bit, has Jim got a deal for you.
Check this out. There's an added incentive for a limited time only. (Always wanted to type that...)
Thanks to Freepers who have been frequenting the Freepathon thread to ham it up with folks over there. It helps to raise the visibility of the Freepathon.
Jump into the Monthly Donorship special thread too.
The Spirit Of Allegiance says, So do I.

Not sure what your point is. Everyone makes slips of the tongue, and I would imagine trying not to swear (or throw things!) in an exchange with Barbara Boxer would tie anyone’s tongue!

Maybe Im missing something but I fail to see how Climate Change is a racial matter She was dismissing his arguments by pointing out how the NAALCP had already settled the matter for blacks, so he'd better get with the program or she wouldn't let him be black any longer.

The woman is a horses ass. Secretariat, Man O' War and all the great horses of history are turning over in their graves with that comment. Please take it back, it is an insult to all of the great and not so great horses that have ever lived.

At first I thought this was hillarious,
then I remembered this is exactly what
the left does to conservative blacks.

—Yes, he called her Ma’am several times. I loved it.

It was good, though, to see someone who Boxer thought was owned by her party ream her out.

I hope he made sure to address her as Maam.
Actually, he DID call her "ma'am." It's in the video.

No, that’s not what I was getting at. He represents the *Black* Chamber of Commerce, and is complaining that somebody else is bringing race to the table. It’s the irony of it all.

Stupidity and arrogance is such a fun combination. Add botox and estrogen and it gets even better.
And we pay these people 190K a year? Puleeeze.

it is an insult to all of the great and not so great horses that have ever lived. And to their asses! :)
To: mmichaels1970
If he doesn’t like anyone playing racial politics, then he shouldn’t be heading a group called the “Black” Chamber of Commerce.
