Well, contrary to the experience of my friends in the upper Midwest, we’ve just had the best three weeks of summer seen in Interior Alaska in a long time. Every day was in the high 70s or low 80s - the greenhouse has just exploded with growth - the beans and carrots out in the garden are lush - in fact, we’ve had to open all the windows and turn on the fans just to be comfortable.

On the other hand, June was uniformly cold and rainy. And the rain and cool temps have come back, too.

Of course, you can’t see “global warming” in a single summer. However, during the past 10 years, when the Arctic was supposedly warming, the last day of frost has been edging closer to June 1 every year, with two years having severe frosts during the first week in June. Last year, the first day of frost was August 19. We’ve had two July frosts since 2000, too. The trend appears to be shorter summers, with later spring frosts and earlier fall frosts. Some of us used to plant out the third week in May, but we’ve been frosted out too many times in recent years, so now everyone plants out on June 1.

Gardeners see long-term patterns in things like climate. Most of us in our little Bush village have been using greenhouses and row covers more and more often. I don’t have fancy instruments or computer data, just the experience of my own eyes. The climate is cooling off up here - even with three really good weeks.

“”Cap and trade” is first a massive indirect tax on the American people and hence another source of revenue for Congress. More importantly “cap and trade” is just about the most effective tool for controlling most economic activity short of openly declaring ourselves a communist nation, and it's a radical environmentalist's dream come true.”

Another bull's eye for Walter. This is as succinct a summary of what the real purpose of this abomination is about as I've seen.

...it's not inconceivable that Congress, caught in the grip of the global warming zealots, would keep all the laws on the books they wrote in the name of fighting global warming.
for "not inconceivable" read "inevitable". Thanks neverdem.
