How to really shut up the Obama 'birthers' (Amend the Constitution? ROFL)
LA Times ^ | 7/22/09 | Pauline Thornton

Posted on 07/22/2009 2:39:20 PM PDT by pissant

Short answer: Amend the Constitution.

I say this because some of the commentary in reaction to the suddenly resurfacing movement to prove that President Obama isn't a natural-board citizen -- fueled in part by filthy-rich average guy Lou Dobbs -- has blamed the Internet for providing the outlet that hateful, xenophobic conspiracy theorists don't deserve. In his otherwise funny and effective column today on Dobbs, The Times' own James Rainey makes this rote statement: "I often hear from disgruntled readers that they don't pay attention to the dread 'Mainstream Media' because they can find 'the truth' on the Internet. Translation: Some blogger will please them by propping up just about any cockeyed theory that they hold."

Unacknowledged in the wake of the Dobbsian nuttiness is the real villain of the Obama birther movement: The Constitution. It's precisely this sacred document that seeds the conspiracy theories over where President Obama was really born. Sure, the Internet does indeed facilitate such craziness (just as it facilitates smart observations that don't have an outlet in newspapers), but none of this would be possible without the following part of Article II, Section 1 in the Constitution: "No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President."

Short answer: Amend the Constitution.

This Peabrain doesn't seem to realize that it takes time to amend the Constitution. During that time his acting President would have to be led away from the White House in handcuffs and relocated to Leavenworth, Kansas.

“It’s the Constitution that seeds this lunacy, and yes, the Internet allows it to grow. But amending the natural-born clause out of the Constitution (which The Times’ editorial board supports) would remove that seed (plus be more fair to millions of naturalized U.S. citizens, and leave our country better off).”

JUST NO. Please God in Heaven...let the Republicans take back control before the Democrats put forth an amendment like this.

I don’t even understand the word AMERICA anymore. It is like my country is gone ...to hell with the Antichrist.

Why amend The Constitution if you are legally eligible?

Exactly the point against this stupid article. If Obama is eligible, there's no need for an amendment, is there? All he has to do is provide the BC. Period. Why even make such a stupid comment unless there's an underlying purpose...

Notify these schmucks that the number of pissed off Americans are way more now than during the election. Zero didn’t win by that much and his base is eroding FAST. He’s going to take down the Congress and MSM when his poll numbers are flushed down the sewer. Don’t forget all the dead that voted for Obama. They, too, are probably disappointed. LOL

LOL I guess in the cities they have no idea what the rest of the country thinks. I don’t see any amendment like this passing in more than 10 states and by 66% in those 10 states would be doubtful.

America does not allow ex post facto laws.

Actually an amendment could be ex post facto, but as I said in an earlier post, it would take time to adopt such an amendment and Obama would be breaking rocks someplace absent a Biden pardon while the amendment was being considered; and unless the amendment contained a specific consideration for Obama he couldn't be restored to the White House.

What’s frustrating is that the birth certificate issue only seems to be getting legs because the ‘Bama’s popularity is tanking. What the heck is wrong with this country?

It's getting noticed on the left, in part, precisely because his popularity is tanking. In part, it's an attempt to shore up sympathy for him. The other part is to show anyone in opposition to his programs, as likely in sympathy with those who'd propose such a loony idea as his ineligibility. We're all racists because we voted against Obama. We're all loony because we don't support government healthcare and government taking over our economy. Thus we're as loony as the Birthers.

Why amend The Constitution if you are legally eligible? Does she think Hussein might not be eligble? Did he possibly commit fraud?

BINGO. This thing smacks of Lewinskygate. First ignore, then deny, then ridicule, then admit but claim its not important, etc. etc.

Except for the fact that in this case there is that pesky constitution standing in the way of the sainted one. So, now the push to amend it which is a blatant admission they KNOW Obama isn't eligible. (This is the 2nd post today where another libtard promoted amending the constitution to strike out the natural born requirement).

They are welcome to try of course but it requires 2/3 of the states to approve any amendment. Good luck with that in the red states.

In the meantime the sainted one has committed felony fraud and it does take a while to go through an amendment process :) heh.

The MSM is now hurting their own cause by these articles being read by people who had never thought or heard about it.

Once they start thinking about it, the genie is out of the bottle and can never be put back in until there is some sort of closure...and phony, contrived COLB on the internet will not convince anyone....especially after the Dan Rather episode.

Something tells me the Clintons know a lot more about this than anyone thinks.

Pauline Thorton should be put on trial for treason and frog marched to the electric chair. This moonbat has no understanding of the Constitution or what liberty and freedom are about. The founders put the amendment in the Constitution to prevent exactly what is happening to our country now-a hostile takeover by a foreign invader.

The good news is that the opposition realizes this is a constitutional issue.

The other good news is that this person’s idea is to amend the constitution. That is within the framework of the constitution, and if the person can get the requisite support, then such an amendment is entirely legal.

The really funny GOOD news is that his author is recognizing the legitimacy of the question about Obama’s natural born citizenship and that without that type of citizenship he is not eligible for the presidency.
