Wonderful photos. I picked up an old book awhile ago and a thrift store on Krakatoa. Full of old telegrams, letters, photos, etc. of Krakatoa from the 1800’s. Amazing stuff. It was mainly the HUGE tsunami that was created from the eruption. MUCH larger than the Indian ocean tsunami IIRC.

A quick search confirmed my poor memory. Over 120-foot tall tsunami for Krakatoa compared with 33-feet tall for the recent Indian Ocean one. Earthquake produced waves don’t get much bigger than 30 to 40 feet. But ones where landmasses are falling into the ocean (large landslides, etc) can be much bigger.

Not sure if the wave affects as large of an area though - probably not. A pinpoint source (volcano) compared with a 100+ mile long underwater fault scarp. I imagine they have done some modelling on what may happen. Although I suppose their warning systems still are not real great in that part of the world.
