Hot air on warming (Boston Herald: "dubious threat of disastrous global warming")
Boston Herald ^ | October 4, 2009 | Editorial Staff

In their global warming bill, Sens. John Kerry (D-Mass.) and Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) have delivered to Congress an incomplete script. It’s like “Hamlet” without the prince.

The 821-page aggregation of environmentalist dreams, rhetoric and directives would mandate grants and demonstration projects galore, and set up targets right and left. It would even grant a few unrelated favors, such as authority for cities to set their own mileage standards for taxicabs. (That the bill wouldn’t solve the cabbies’ basic problem of having to buy and insure new hybrids seems not to bother the senators.)

The cap-and-trade scheme by which large emitters could buy emissions rights from other emitters is similar to the one in the House bill sponsored by Reps. Henry Waxman (D-Calif.) and Ed Markey (D-Mass.). Both bills target a reduction in warming emissions of 83 percent by 2050.

But the Kerry-Boxer bill never specifies how initial emission rights are to be distributed. Waxman-Markey would distribute most initial rights free to various classes of emitters chosen to attract votes in the House, with auctions for about one-sixth of the total.

The strategic logic of Boxer and Kerry escapes us. Perhaps they think an allocation plan offered at the last minute would scrape by opponents.

Congress will shackle the economy if it succeeds in acting against the dubious threat of disastrous global warming on the increasingly shaky theory that unchecked emissions of carbon dioxide must be curbed. The effects of Boxer-Kerry, if passed, cannot be far different from Waxman-Markey: A reduction in average global temperature in 2050 of 0.09 degree Fahrenheit at an annual cost that could reach $1,791 per household.

Some senators say the Senate will be too busy to act this year. And that is the best thing we can hope for.

The dems have either gone completely nuts or they are intentionally trying to destroy the United States. Knowing that moron “Don’t call me ma’am” Boxer and John F’n Kerry, I believe the latter.

Yes. It really is serious when global warming is causing a new “Ice Age”. Huh! No, this is not a Yogi Berra misquote.

The jury’s back. These fools are no more than a bunch of babbling idiots.
It’s really sad that these people actually believe themselves.

They’re just commie goons. They’re using it as an excuse to suck up more money off the backs of successful working Americans, the few that are left, into government control so they can use the money to suck up more votes from their friends.

They know global warming is junk science, but they don’t care. Any old excuse will do.

Libs are hopelessly idiotic and brain-dead.

These two world class clowns hope to somehow get serious consideration for this bill when Americans have clearly shown in poll after poll after poll, that not only do they not believe that “Global Warming” is an important issue, they overwhelmingly want congress to do something to fix our broken economy.

It’s the priorities stupid!

Not only that, but they couldn’t have picked a worse time of year for this, psychologically, as we’re into Fall and will soon be into cold temps around the country. Reminds me of the stupid Global Warming protesters trying to hold a march in the frozen snow last year.

How much fraud can the American people tolerate from our new masters?

If I were to worry about anything, it would be about global cooling. We're lucky to have a little warmth. We could be an iceball earth if solar activity goes into a decline.

A decline in solar activity decreases heliosphere which would allow an increase in the incoming cosmic rays (genetic mutations) and such would increase high altitude cloud formation. Clouds increase solar reflection at high altitudes which lower temperatures. The result is cooling which would increase the ice formations on earth. The more ice formations, the more reflections of solar energy which would cool the earth more.

As winter is showing its touch in October, I wonder if this will be even a colder one than last winter.

While the threat to us vis a vis health care “reform” is real, I’m somewhat inclined to believe that cap and tax is more along the lines of red meat to throw to the kook base, rather than a serious attempt at legislation. I could be wrong, however.

Never-the-less, the IPCC has based its apocalyptic “hockey stick” chart of rising global temperatures that, it now turns out, is based on the historic concentric rings on exactly 12 trees. Count ‘em, twelve sets of rings. Billions of dollars ripped from the coffers of the rich countries and showered on the developing nations, industries crippled, carbon sacrificing, electricity plants shut down, etc., etc., etc. .....based on 12 trees somewhere in Russia?
It’s almost laughable, if it weren’t so sickening. Is it just me....or have we been had?

I’ve only seen the tree-ring scam reported in UK print. Have you (anyone?) seen any reporting in the US news market yet?
