As long as it is still called an Asteroid then we're OK ... when it gets termed a Meteor, then watch out !!!
/grin

Asteroid passes just 8,700miles from Earth - with only 15 hours warning ... The asteroid was headed directly for Earth at the time, and was diverted at the last moment by a mighty gust of hot air - turns out Obama was giving a speech at the time ...

If it is going to hit us it really doesn’t matter how much warning we have. When an asteroid has your name on it you’re a goner. Repent now. I did.

Its orbit brought it 30 times nearer than the Moon Does that convey the same meaning as:
Its orbit brought it 30 times nearer than the the astroid closer to Earth than 1/30th of the distance to the Moon.

Even NASA screws up
That illustration is grossly out of scale.
To scale, the path of the object would be touching the image of earth, as it flew by.
I hate it when they do that. Catering to the scientific ignoramuses?

Maybe Teheran rather than Mecca. The Saudis aren’t fixing to nuke us and our friends the way the Iranians are.
