If Elin soon sports a diamond larger than Kobe's wife got, we'll know what happened. An underlying thread to this story is the general suspicion that rich athletes expect certain perks. Also I guess by saying I'm glad no one has raised the issue of black men as “players” I'm raising it, but no one has and that is one of Tiger's strengths, his non homeyness which could be in jeopardy due to this incident if it is indeed infidelity. The sooner this story gets squashed the better for Cheetah’s, er, Tiger's rep.

He has turned himself into an advertising gimmick. People buy products he endorses because of the image of himself that he sells. He gave up some of his privacy when he decided to trade on that image, and entered into a “live by the sword, die by the sword” scenario. On the one hand it can make him money as long as he maintains the de facto contract between himself and his public. But if he breaks that agreement, there will be hell to pay.
