i like the movie “the day after tomarrow” as a quirky little disaster movie. i, unlike these pinheads, do not take it seriously. but then i wasn’t afraid to go swimming after seeing “Jaws”, i did not fear hi-rise hotels after seeing “towering inferno” and was not terrified of flying after seeing “airport 75”. i guess i am just odd like that.

I agree on it all except “Jaws”...

Now, perhaps when it saw it, it had an effect on me because only couple of years earlier as a dumb 12 year old I used to go swimming late at night in 30 foot deep waters when I lived in the Philippines...didn’t give it a second thought.

Not a thought, that is, until I saw “Jaws”. I could barely get myself into a swimming pool later that night after the movie, and the next night I was with a bunch of guys and we swam across a lake on a moonlit night to sink a friend’s little boat as a “joke”.

Dumb ass teenagers.

As we swim to the other side of the lake, the moon is shining down on the surface of the water, and I keep telling myself “Okay. It is a lake. There aren’t any sharks in here. Just a lake. A landlocked lake...” all the while thinking of the opening scene of the movie.

Then, my buddy begins thrashing around and yells out “Hey! Something bit me!”

Some stupid little lake fish probably nibbled on his damn toe. I nearly killed him.
