Republican candidates now have an eight-point lead over Democrats, their biggest lead of the year, in the latest edition of the Generic Congressional Ballot.
The new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey shows that 44% would vote for their districts Republican congressional candidate while 36% would opt for his or her Democratic opponent. Support for GOP candidates held steady over the past week, but support for Democrats slipped by a point.
Perhaps this helps to explain why Parker Griffith, a freshman congressman from northern Alabama, is expected to announce today that he is switching parties. Elected as a Democrat, he is switching to the GOP because of unhappiness with national Democratic policies. Several other Democratic congressmen in swing districts have announced that they will not seek reelection next year.
Men prefer GOP candidates by 19 points over Democrats, while women are evenly divided between the two. Among voters not affiliated with either party, Republicans lead by a 43% to 19% margin.
Republicans have held the lead on the ballot for over four months now. But since early November their lead has steadily increased. Democrats currently have majority control of both the House and Senate.

That’s bull. I became a single mom in 1990. I have 3 kids, went to engineering school, and graduated in 1995. I had family help, I worked 30 or so hours a week waitressing. The last semester was hard, so I opted for food stamps for 6 months, which was really embarrassing. (I used the system as intended until I landed an engineer job) But, I graduated with a 3.2 gpa (my goal was above 3.0) and eventually went on to get an MBA. Getting my degree was 80% gumption, and 20% studying. If people were told, ‘they can do it’ instead of ‘no you can’t’, it would be different. Women aren’t the problem, government is.
I agree in principle, but I would like to see it that no one who's personal income is, in whole or in part, provided by a governmental entitiy (except for police, fire, ambulance, and the military), be allowed to vote.
I'd like to see what this survey would look like if all of the government drone workers and welfare receipiants were filtered out (and yes, I'm including Social Security receipients in this - I always used to jokingly tell my mom that see was receiving welfare for the aged, and to thank me for working to provide her with her check).
Wow - the 24 pt lead among independents is what stood out to me.
It’s a single sperm problem. ;)
Instead of aborting children, maybe we could give out reversible vasectomys to young men and when they’ve been gainfully employed for 10 years they can get the reversals authorized. (Just joking!)
I don’t see taking away the rights of government workers—but I would do away with all unions in the government, to start with—and then with specific union protections in the private sector as well.
As to welfare recipients, that’s a nice idea, except if you took away elder welfare (social security recipient) votes you’d be hurting our cause.
If these numbers hold up, GOP retakes the House.
That's when WE the PEOPLE will bring this Republic once more under the meaning, intent, and LAW of the Constitution.
The ONLY thing that could DELAY this is if the Communist In Chief makes some attempt at preventing our American Right to holding a Free Election.
The Democrat Party is TOAST.
A government of the tax payers for the tax payers?
Sounds reasonable, but what happens when you’re no-longer one and you already paid in it for years...no return on your social security investment because the payers no-longer wish to pay?
I agree with John Adam’s view ie not all votes are equal. Democracy like Capitalism does have flaws when politics becomes a brother. Although for the sake of harmony, which I ultimately think is the goal of all good governments, one must distribute power and check it evenly.
I tend to think the masses and the wealthy are far more influential than the intelligent and wise. Wisdom doesn’t usually come from numbers or wealth...and somehow we have to return to an enlightened era in American politics.
A grass root of debate and thought, where the competing factions have some role in it.
“a civics test”
who is the president
which party is in control of the senate & house
would be a good start. very many didn’t know last election.
That post has convinced me of one thing about you. You are the type of guy that would fart at the dinner table. Damn that picture is sick!!! LOL
Single men don’t have this problem because if a guy gets a woman pregnant and it costs too much, he just dumps her and the baby. :/
The problem is not just the govt but also a culture that doesn’t take marriage seriously.
Welcome to FR. And please don’t check out the Helen Thomas threads.
touchy feely side..lets be nice to everybody don’t you know..yea right!
Well I guees they enjoy being called Bi#ch by ol’ Chuckie Shumer or screwed over by the likes of Bill Clinton... It must be the beaten wife syndrome that the rats use to control their women. Emotion filled with zero logic, reality or fact.
Imagine what the results would be if the Republicans actually had real leadership. They are enjoying this surge in popularity just be not going along with the Dems, not because they have anyone who is actually articulating a conservative vision for America. Give the Republicans an articulate, powerful, principled leader and their margin would increase by another 10%. The Dems are counting on Republican ineptitude to save them from total disaster in 2010. We need to pray for a leader who has the right stuff to push the Dems off the “brink” (as Obama put it) on which they have chosen to perch.
Women are enticed by the rhetoric of the left into believing government can be a caring provider of stability, love, hope, peace and prosperity.
By a wide margin. To borrow from tactical naval aviation parlance, we are going to hammer their tits.
Government created this culture. The black family was extremely strong prior to the 1960’s.
