It is looking like Mitch McConnell will object to the appointment of conferees to create a formal conference that would attempt to reconcile the House and Senate versions of Obamacare. Harry Reid is likely to start screaming of the GOP being the party of “obstructionists”. Dingy Harry doesn’t realize however that the GOP being obstructionist is a good thing in the public’s eye. Americans are still strongly opposed to Obamacare. Dan Perrin mentioned this strategy as the way to go a few days back. This sets up some potentially monumental difficulties as the progressive caucus in the House and the Stupak/pro-life Dems both have problems with the bill.

There is a drama playing out in one state..where a Senator wants to retire and needs to do it before the next Governor is sworn in...can’t remember the state.
If only 5 'pro-life' Democrats don't fold like Nelson did, the Bill will be defeated on revote.
There may be even some 'Howard Dean' House members who may take his advice and vote against the Bill as well.

The GOP, it's a remake of "The Wizard of OZ," with all these blowhards reprising the Cowardly Lion role.
This House/Senate reconcilliation wont be finished until February. All it takes at that time will be one nervous Dem. Senator to jump ship and kill it. They have all stayed on board through the Senate process, but February and changes may give one a reason to jump ship.

You are assuming there will need to be a House-Senate reconciliation. What if the House passes the Senate bill as is? This could still happen, and if so, will go straight to the WH for the signature.

This could be true. Of course we all want a more aggressive and Conservative GOP but the devil could possibly be in the details when they try and reconcile the bills. I simply don’t know.

NJ Senator Lautenburg(D) needs to retire before Chris Christie is sworn in as governor and Reid needs his vote before he retires. This is why Reed is rushing this bill with all due haste.

In MA we also have a special election to fill “The Naval Hero of Chappaquiddick’s” senate seat. It’s kind of going under the MSM’s radar but by Jan 18th there may not be 60 votes. IMHO it isn’t a total (D) lock either. People may be getting fed up with the way the dims played fast and loose with the rules regarding this special election and I understand BamBam’s buddy D. Patrick isn’t a very popular governor (at least outside Boston)
Christie becomes gov. on January 19, 2010. Lautenberg needs to bail before then.
Good strat, but after McConnell waxing romantic about his “friend” Harry Reid the other day, I’ll believe this one when I see it-—and I’ve supported the GOP as being incredibly strong throughout this business, but I have a feeling this one is a bridge too far.
