Pacquiao says he plans to sue Mayweather

SARANGANI, PHILIPPINES(AP) —Manny Pacquiao says he is planning to file a defamation lawsuit against Floyd Mayweather Jr., the fighter’s father, and Golden Boy Promotions

In a statement posted Friday on his Web site, Pacquiao claims that his character has been damaged and tarnished by accusations he says are untrue.

“Enough is enough,” Pacquiao said in the statement. “These people, Mayweather Sr., Jr., and Golden Boy Promotions, think it is a joke and a right to accuse someone wrongly of using steroids or other performance-enhancing drugs. I have tried to just brush it off as a mere pre-fight ploy but I think they have gone overboard.”

...

“I maintain and assure everyone that I have not used any form or kind of steroids and that my way to the top is a result of hard work, hard work, hard work and a lot of blood spilled from my past battles in the ring, not outside of it,” Pacquiao’s statement said. “I have no idea what steroids look like, and my fear in God has kept me safe and victorious through all these years.

“Now, I say to Floyd Mayweather Jr., don’t be a coward, and face me in the ring, mano-a-mano, and shut your big, pretty mouth, so we can show the world who is the true king of the ring.”

I’m in Manny’s hometown visiting my wife’s family as we speak. Manny is right. Shut up, Mayweather. Manny’s not on anything but sheer determination and a strong will and a firm belief in God.

Mayweather is just playing mind games and that’s not gonna help him when Manny pummels him to the canvass.

Manny fan here too. It was just a few yrs ago that our family spent Christmas and New Year in Cebu (my brother is also married to a Filipina) but that’s another matter...

From what I gather, Manny shouldnt have fell for that PR trap against him. Manny takes the Nevada AC’s urine tests before his fights, and sounds suspicious that suddenly Money’ invokes the USDA drug testing out of thin air?? Fairweather is just making up excuses so he wont have the ONE LOSS to his record.

Methinks Mayweather is scared to death.

Much as I love Manny and would love to see him beat PBF I am curious as to why he wouldn’t accept Olympic-style testing. What’s worse is Arum’s excuse that “I have a Filipino fighter who is very superstitious” just makes you wonder even more. Yeah, I fan get Manny not wanting to have blood drawn the day prior to the fight but if PBF has no issue with it, why should Manny. People who are innocent and have nothing to hide don’t give up over $25 million payday over blood tests. I think Manny is the best fighter I’ve seen in the last 25 years (followed closely by PBF), and this fight would be the biggest in recent memory and cement one of these fighter’s legacy. I’d hate to see Manny’s career be tarnished by the question “Why wouldn’t he agree to blood tests”

He says he is that needle phobic that it totally throws him off his game....who knows. I hope the fight happens and that Manny kicks ass.

If he says he’s “Needle phobic” you know he’s got somethng to hide because if memory serves he has a few tattoos.

If it is true that Manny offered to take a blood drug test right after the fight, he’s probably covered. At this point it’s a PR battle for people’s trust.

Still can’t figure why Manny won’t agree to the pre-fight testing under USADA regulations. And in this case I don’t think “public trust” matters. True fight fans already know who they want to win and no matter in all people love them or all people hate them, they still get the tens of millions of dollars - but only if they fight. Come on Manny- step up to the plate and show you have nothin to hide. Then come out and kick his ass.

Manny Pacquiao should be angry. He is one of the best fighters around. Mayweather will not win against Manny. Mayweather has to know this - so he starts childish, untrue rumors.

I have tattoos, but I cringe for hospital needles, so i kinda get that.

I do not understand why they (Mayweather camp) are making a big deal over this. He (Manny) has never failed a test before, or eve been suspected, so why pull this crap now and ask for extra testing.

No offense but that doesn’t make much sense, even moreso for a world class athlete who has to undergo blood tests before every fight. I don’t understand why it’s such big deal to Manny. If he’s got nothing to hide why not just say “OK, no problem” and use it is as extra motivation? But the big question is why do you walk away from $25-30 million and the only chance you’ll have to cement your legacy as one of the best - if not THE best of all time.

The reason why Floyd Mayweather Jr. is doing it is he knows he would lose his unbeaten record to Manny Pacquiao.

Manny has a good lawsuit, and I think he will wipe the smile off of Mayweather’s face in court if not in the ring.

“Still can’t figure why Manny won’t agree to the pre-fight testing under USADA regulations”

He won’t agree to have blood drawn immediately before the fight because he thinks it might affect his performance. He has agreed to have blood drawn immediately after the fight. No other professional boxing match has ever been fought under these demands. Floyd Mayweather Jr. is just scared of losing.

Here’s what boxingnew24 thinks about it:

That only makes sense if he knew Manny would refuse the testing.

"He won’t agree to have blood drawn immediately before the fight because he thinks it might affect his performance."

But wouldn't the same also be true of PBF? And on what does he base his belief? Is there medical evidence that blood testing before a fight affects performance? Don't get me wrong - I'd love to see Manny beat him but his refusal to agree to this type of testing raises questions in my mind about his past performances, especially jumping up so many weight classes. The only way to prove he has nothing to hide is to agree to the tests

“That only makes sense if he knew Manny would refuse the testing.”

That’s easy enough: Manny Pacquiao has said he won’t allow blood to be drawn within a week before the bout. So naturally that’s what Floyd demanded, since he is desperate to avoid the fight.
