The Jefferson Area Tea Party has been officially banned from the area around Congressman Tom Perriellos office. The landlord of the building where Perriellos office is located, Lisa Murphy, has convince the local officials that recent protests outside the office is negatively affecting the other tenants in the building.
Originally the tea party was told that as long as they did not interfere with the flow of traffic in the parking lot and obstruct business, because the lot was open to the general public, they would be allowed to protest in the parking lot. However, Ms. Murphy who donated $1000 to Perreillos campaign and held a fund raiser for him, was not happy with this situation. She complained long enough and loud enough to the local officials so that as of this week protesters are banned from parking area around the congressmans office.
As a person who was at every event that took place at this location we were always respectful of the other businesses in the vicinity and did not block or obstruct traffic. This however made no difference to the landlord. The only event that took place at this location in which the police were not contacted was when Organizing for America held an event in the parking lot. OFA decided to hold a rally to show their support for government run health care on September 1st, the JATP was also there to counter their effort. The pro-Perriello group even set up a table in the parking lot to gather signatures and distribute printed signs to their participants. OFA must of had about 50 or more people and there with an equal number from the tea party. The debate continued for about 30 minutes or so with both sides chanting and loudly debating, but for some reason Ms. Murphy did not deem it a disturbance to her tenants and the police were not called. Rob Schilling has pictures of this rally on his blog.
This past Friday the Jefferson Area Tea Party showed up with about 50 people stood right in front of Perriellos office. Before everyone arrived for the protest the police had been called. It is obvious that Murphy will put up with inconvenience to her tenants as long as it coincides with her political agenda in support of Tom. It really isnt a matter of how it is affecting her tenants it is all about her beliefs.
Can anyone in VA confirm this or provide a follow-up?
If it is true go to Perriellos home.
If that’s the case, go to the right of way.
Vote him out of office. End of story.
Well, go inside the office then... taxpayers pay for that office.
That was my first thought - we had a lovely "Freep" at Senator Lieberman's house back in 2000.
If it is true go to Perriellos home.
Just what the Sons of Liberty did!
You do not have thhe power to ban any protest of a free people How dare you!
At some point in time the government will need to be told to go pound sand!
Apparently they need to be reminded of the 1st Amendment right to peaceably assemble & to petition the government for redress of grievances.
With 2A in the back row clearing his throat.
these snobs need to go! see ya!
As long as you keep moving you are a pedestrian, if you choose to walk up the street and down the street a thousand times you are still a pedestrian, the secret is do not block the free flow of traffic.
Amen and I agree with another poster, go to his house and stay within the legal distance. Follow all these Socialist traitors wherever they go. Obey the law, but let them know they’re TOAST and that they can start packing to get out of “our” government.
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
Ping to Race, he has some experience in a home protest from years ago, it is tricky.
What we need is......MMX FLEX!!!
To hold a spontaneous counter demonstration, with sound, bull horns, you are covered under their permit, under the rule that if you protest you can expect counter protest.
How quaint! I'm like you and remember the days when the First Amendment was part of the Constitution of the United States of America and when that Constitution was the law of the land. We're in the minority though - public school history teachers, democrat politicians, and judges have no idea what we are talking about when we refer to that obsolete phrase that used to be in the "Living Constitution".
No surprise there. Perriello's office is in Charlottesville. Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe that McCain got 19 percent of the vote there. It's Lib City.
And if murphy lives elsewhere then a visit to her house is in order as well.Let her neighbors know as well.
