* Are there any true 'pro-gun' candidates in the Illinois Senate race? * Don't rely on 'mainstream press' to determine candidate positions on guns * Why should gun owners support Republicans in Illinois Senate race? * Make politicians prove they support the Second Amendment
Background: We've been discussing Illinois' 2010 U.S. Senate race. As we've seen, while posturing themselves away from the issue, Democrat candidates are on record as supporting various "gun control" edicts. Likewise, Republican party front runner Mark Kirk has an anti-gun track record that's as bad as it gets, including sponsoring a federal ban on semiautomatic firearms.
Still, we're told there is hope from the GOP:
Kathleen Thomas, a historical researcher in Springfield, opposes any restrictions...GOP candidates Patrick Hughes, Hinsdale developer, and Andy Martin, a lawyer and talk-show host, also oppose a federal ban on assault weapons and emphasize their support of the right to keep and bear arms.
With that in mind, and noting the Martin and Thomas campaigns both have strong statements of support for the Second Amendment on their websites, I sent the three campaigns my Gun Rights Questionnaire. To date, Martin and Thomas have responded.
Here are Andy Martin's responses:

Andy, make an ad questioning Kirk's vote for cap and trade. Leave the gossip to the rags in Hollywood.
Andy Martin has run for a number of political offices and he hasn’t won one yet. Now, why might that be? Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that the man is a fruitcake.
Patrick Hughes looks like our best candidate. We have to eliminate Kirk - the dude is in the wrong party.
Andy Martin? The self promoting Internet Powerhouse?
Patrick Hughes is the man for the job. He’s got my vote.

Hughes for me but I’ll only vote once.
Re: #s 6&7.
Sadly, Mark Kirk is nothing but an even more liberal Olympia Snowe in drag.
I’m too old to vote for any more RINO vermin. I suspect I’ll be voting Libertarian on that section of the ballot.
This guy isn’t AT ALL pro-gun.
Looks good for my primary vote!
Now, which R in the primary for gov? Ryan looks like he’s a strong general election candidate but his website is distressingly thin on issues. Which leads me to believe he’s a statist tax-raising RINO as soon as he’s elected. In which case, I’d rather have Quinn.
But I don’t know anything about the rest of the candidates, other than I’ll never vote for McKenna.
Just looking at Adam Andrzejewski website. He looks to be heavily involved in the Tea Party movement. Take a look at him for Governor.

I’ve seen Andy associated (incorrectly?) with Oberweis who is pretty much a nutter in my book.
But, for lack of a better knowledge of the candidates, I’m leaning for him anyway.
My #1 issue for Illinois is to break the power of the government employees unions, and eliminate their future pension benefits. They can have defined contribution plans like everyone else. We’re already horribly in the hole on the unfunded benefits they’ve already “earned”.
