With the 2010 election year barely under way, two senators and one governor — all Democrats — ditched plans to run for re-election in the latest signs of trouble for President Barack Obama's party.

Taken together, the decisions by Sens. Chris Dodd of Connecticut and Byron Dorgan of North Dakota as well as Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter caused another bout of heartburn for Democrats as they struggle to defend themselves in a sour political environment for incumbents, particularly the party in charge.

As 2009 ended, Democrats watched a string of their House members announce retirements and one congressman defect to the GOP.

Yep. Obamacare will now pass. They don't have to worry what their constituents think. That's the bad news.

They never cared about their constitutents before, what makes you think this will change anything?

The next election will be a generic one, and party affiliation will be the key issue.

The Democrats have made these issues a one Party issue and that Party, the Democrats, will pay in Nov.

Sure doesn’t make sense; does it?

Wonder why Barney hasn’t dropped out? Guess he wants to go to jail from his office.

I'm being way too optimistic, but maybe they are not going to run because they won't have the backing of the Democrat party when they vote AGAINST Obamacare?

I know, wishful thinking.

They are freed to vote for it now precisely because they'll never to face their voters again. And no - they don't give a damn what the American people think of them.

This will make it harder, not easier for the GOP to capture these seats so I’m not sure how good this is.

No..I think its because they know they cant win...BECAUSE of the healthcare issue. They are probably stepping down, or being told to step down..so they can bring in some dem who wasnt involved in healthcare.

You figure, a lot of dems have discovered their mistake in voting for the fake president. They also dont want this healthcare. Not ALL dems are freeloaders and not all are rich..nor are they blind. They wont vote for someone who was involved in putting the screws to them..but as dems, why they will vote for someone not involved.

Thats how I see it..anyway.

This doesnt make it better for us..it makes it worse. We would have a better chance leaving the rotten dem in..his own people wont vote for him.

There’s also Gov. BIG DUMMIE DOYLE in WI who isn’t going to run, when WI has more red per capita than CA on the books it’s the kind of smelly rep that even “Mr.Education” understands means a political fishkill has begun.

I know this is good news, but it’s still irritating.

These jackals know that what they are doing runs hugely counter to what their constituents want, and that they can’t vote this way and get away with it.

So they do the dirty deed and then run like cowards.

I'm thinking the same thing. Why?

I suggest they have been offered/promised some very important position in the new Health Care system they are ramming down our throats, before they leave office.

For me there is no other explanation for this, and it makes sense in light of how Pelosi feels "She don't care if she loses some seats" and the way Reid is behaving as well, He don't care either.

I tell you, they have been PROMISED something BIG in their future.

Some have suggested that the likes of Dodd wants to quit a winner. Since when do the Democratic ILK of his sort care about what people think? Nah! there is more to this.

“They never cared about their constitutents before, what makes you think this will change anything?”

I’d say you are correct for the most part but not always.

Senators, serving 6 year terms, ALWAYS pay attention to constituents during the election year.

Just ask Tom Daschle, who failed to heed that advice competently.

None of the Democrats did so this year.

********

The two senators have a moral obligation to abstain from voting on the Health Care bill if they have any conscience at all, and if they are not going to run for re-election in Nov. 2010.
