Here’s a good site on Mt. Pelee and the eruption, with a great picture of the amazing lava dome which formed after the eruption. Oddly enough, the volcano goddess of Hawaii is called Pele.

Oops. Forgot to post the link to Mt. Pelee:

Thanks rdl6989! The earlier topic about the quake itself got a little surly, so I'm pinging this topic instead and here's a link to the other:

Prayers for your family and all the people in Haiti. My mother has a friend who went to Haiti several times in the 1980’s to do missionary work. They happened to be there when Baby Doc was overthrown.

I think it was Mt. Pelée. Not 100% sure, though.

Were safe in San Juan. I was in traffic when it hit so I didnt feel a thing and I havent heard any reports that it was felt here at all. Thanks for the report, cll. Please refer to post #17 in this thread and look at that map of tremors and quakes around P.R. in the past week. Quite frightening. The Puerto Rico Trench scares me. If there's a huge magnitude quake in the trench, sort of like the Banda Aceh quake of '04, it will wipe the top half of the island. It's simply frightening.

Thanks for the map link.
Very, very frightening.
My entire family lives near Old San Juan, Puerto Rico.
