Republican Scott Browns upset win in Massachusetts Tuesday threatened to derail any hopes of passing a health reform bill this year...
White House senior adviser David Axelrod told POLITICO: I think that it would a terrible mistake to walk away now. If we dont pass the bill, all we have is the stigma of a caricature that was put on it. That would be the worst result..."[snip]
Democratic leaders insisted they planned to press ahead with health reform, and met late into Tuesday night in Speaker Nancy Pelosis office. But they made no decisions about how to proceed...
[snip]
The White Houses preferred option is for the House to approve the already-passed Senate version of health reform...But several House members said last night theyre not prepared to pass the Senate bill alone even if it means health care reform would die.
And with the winning majority for a health reform bill in the House so thin, almost any defections at this point would be fatal to reforms prospects.
[snip]
Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.), one of the leading advocates for health reform in the House, urged fellow Democrats to heed the message of Massachusetts and pivot toward creating jobs, perhaps with a health-care component added in.
But moderate Sen. Jim Webb (D-Va.) effectively put the idea to rest Tuesday night, calling the Brown victory a referendum on health reform and taking a swipe at his party's leadership by calling for more transparency in the process.
[snip]
Rep. Brad Ellsworth (D-Ind.) said... "I cannot imagine, from one person, one member from Indiana, that this House would accept the Senate bill as is."
House Republican Leader John Boehner fired back ..."The American people are screaming, stop at the top of their lungs, and out-of-touch Democratic leaders ignore them at their peril.

Check out the quotes from the dems...hubba hubba!
I think you’re 100% correct. Last night was the earthquake, but we need to make sure they feel the aftershocks as well. Forget their outward appearances, they are most certainly shaken. Now is the time to drive the point home that we do not want government run health care, period.
Boehner! Apparently, the dude has a pair!
I have written to mine this morning telling Chet Edwards to “listen to WE THE PEOPLE.”
Backstab! The Republican party does 4X damage. Democratic party must make a saving throw versus death or lose the next election.
Always double tap.
I sent an email my Democrat Senator (Kay Hagan) asking if she saw the results of the MA special election. I also reminded her that the same thing could happen to her and other Democrats.
If you have a Democrat congress critter, please do something similar.
Just wait until the Dems figure out how to wrap the bill in bacon to make it easier for the masses to swallow. They’ll come up with something that will appeal to the weak links in our ranks.
Hope and Change is Dead, the audacity of complete Failure (Special election gloat post)
Not only did the Massachusetts vote throw a wrench into the healthcare works but this morning Obama’s candidate for TSA removed his name from consideration...Southers must’ve decided not to bet on a crippled pony as the democratic party is becoming....
1. Abandon current bills.
2. Steal GOP ideas and incorporate in new bill.
3. Pass legislation.
4. Claim victory.
Now chase down your ten members of the House and tell them to kill the HealthCare Bill from Hell.
We're besieging them in every state.
It's as good as his We the People. Ray gets it.
I did also. I wrote Bingaman and Udall (although they have a while to go on their terms I let them know we’d remember how they said they KNEW what was good for NM) and Lujan.
I said did you see the results? You’re next if you don’t listen to us and quit voting with the Puke-in-Chief’s socialist agenda.
Yep, and conservative Republicans should always have ready their health care cost reduction plan as a more simple effective alternate, for the second part of the speech.
It contains at least:
Tort reform, pay doctors not lawyers.
50 state insurance competition, and an elective mandate free basic policy from all insurers.
Drug patent and re-patent period reform.
Fraud prevention programs.
Agreed! I think a 7am meeting happened today. I am sure it ended with Rahm E angrily having to be told to leave as members of the Democratic apparatus have an intervention with the President. I am sure they are imploring him to abandon his current strategy and feign a defeat. Come back with a Trojan Horse bill and force the Pubbies to go along with it. But then again its Obama and he is an affirmative action buffoon and anyone who really knows him well thinks he is a bit of a dullard and dimbulb.
