In a low-key and conciliatory first appearance as Senator-elect, Scott Brown appeared to rule out any compromise on a national health care plan, suggesting instead that the question be returned to the states and that Massachusetts, which covers 98 percent of its residents, be a "model."
"We already have 98 percent of our people insured here," Brown said. "The one size fits all plan that is being pushed nationally it doesnt work."

Suggesting MA’s plan is good: -1
Suggesting it’s a state, not federal issue: +3
Overall: +2
I’ll take it. He’s not going to knock Romneycare b/c he voted for it and Myth is his backer. Notice how little the dims care about heathcare at the state level? They only care about it on the national level as means to maintain power.

Isn’t Mass going broke?
Yes, but it’s better for a state to go broke than the federal government. States do not have money printing presses and they are directly responsible for their own spending.
Brown is approaching this with exactly the correct and Constitutional approach: there is no Constitutional authority for the Federal government to get involved in healthcare, period.
If states want to dabble in universal coverage and possibly go broke doing it, fine, have at it.
But won’t we wind up paying for it when Massachusetts can’t make a payroll?
I absolutely agree with you. I was just asking about how Universal Health Care is effecting Massachusetts. I was thinking, if I get some kind of terrible illness, could I just move to Massachusetts and be taken care of?
Not if the Federal Government once again stays inside its Constitutional boundaries and refuses to subsidize profligate state spending.
Although I have not heard Senator Brown address this specifically, I would venture a confident guess that he opposes federal bailouts of bankrupt states.
I hope Senator-elect Brown is consistent on state rights and he is not using the argument to "cherry pick" which issue he does not want to engage in. To his credit, he has used State Rights on gay marriage and abortion and rigorously campaigned about the few things the federal government should be doing.
I believe you are correct, and if that’s what Brown does mean then I agree totally. I am a firm believer that the majority of what constitutes the obesity of the Fed belongs to the States, and is theirs to toss, or to find means in which to handle the costs themselves.
We as a Nation are in trouble today because we allowed the Socialists too much leeway to play at their idealogical voodoo, Centralized form of government for too long. They should have been shut down, and shown the light long ago.
Hello Leftists! This is The United States of America. Here’s a copy of our Constitution. Kindly sit down, shut up, and read. If you have any questions, just raise your hand, and we’ll be happy to enlighten you.
Shutting up would be the hardest part for the Leftist, but reading about Freedom will be a close second with their eyes glazing incessently glazing over. Freedom to them is just another word.
He should have the guts to say Masscare isn’t working and is totally bankrupting the state, and THAT is why national healthcare will fail.
It isn’t a states rights issue. It’s not ANY government’s issue (state or national). Getting government involved as partial or primary payer has totally screwed up the cost structure of medical procedures. And thus, insurance premiums.
Brown is exactly right. It is a state issue and if a state feels they can provide healthcare for all their residence then they should have the right to have it voted on.
The Libs woke up this morning and realized that it wasn’t a nightmare but reality. Have a nice day, Libs, enjoy reality.
