The State of the Union address is many things: a chance to rally the base, introduce new proposals, and regain support with independents that may have been lost during the previous year. It can also be quite a workout.

Democrats and Republicans use the State of the Union as a sounding board to stand up for their principles and their Commander in Chief.

If you close your eyes, it’s possible to imagine yourself at a pep rally. Well, a pep rally that talks about the need to improve the economy rather than the need to beat Crosstown High’s football team.

Not counting minor smatterings of applause, President Barack Obama was interrupted by applause 86 times, 46 of which included a standing

Ever Democrat in the chamber last night knew that the media would be counting the clapping interruptions and the standing ovulations.....I mean ovations. They may figure that this Nobel Laureate needs to go down as having the most clapping and standing O’s of any president. But I think if they measured clapping and standing O’s per minute of speech, the number would drop. That was the longest, most boring SOTU speech I’ve heard in a long time.

Senator Murry was sitting behind the Supreme Court folks when Obama made his comment about their bad decision. she nodded and jumped up clapping with he rest of the Dims.

Sent a terse email her way, saying tot eh effect that she was a member of the WEA(ex teacher), and so her union can now work on her behalf legally. Every election cycle the WEA gets fined for illegal political contributions etc.

The Supreme Soviet had the clapping thing down to a science. Transcriptions of dull longwinded speeches by bores like Brezhnev were printed with frequent notations in parentheses of (stormy applause) whenever they wanted to underline a talking point. Clearly, the congressional 'rat claque took a lesson from their fraternal soviet henchmen.
