I have studied “the enemy”.

Actually, I’ve spent about 3-4 years in self taught worldview studies,

and it’s become pretty easy to understand them.

Somehow, the Global Warming crowd has successfully handled the 'challenge' that natural cycles in planetary climate present to their movement. When faced with these facts, the true believers say it doesn't matter; we MUST stop our present behaviors. How is this possible?

I can only explain this by saying the Global Warming Movement fills a void in a modern 'post-Christian' culture by providing an outlet for the religious impulse in that allows its adherents to believe their actions will have an effect in what they believe to be a random and pointless universe.

Like phony 'scrap drives' during WW2 where the materials collected were NOT used in the war effort. Provided the truth was never publicized, the effect of these drives was to bind the folks at home with the boys on the front.

Check this out The “Patterson Effect” which uses similar effects to show the sun directly affect the weather.

You would know that if you had watched that wonderful educational documentary following the life of a stone age family. You can catch the reruns, it’s called “The Flintstones”.

Fred was an idiot. Every single show, at the end, he would order the rack of bronto ribs at the drive-in, knowing full well they were so heavy the would flip his car over. Why would I pay attention to someone that dumb.

And you know it was the Stone Age, because they drove to a place called a drive-in theater.

There you go. Can you imagine his carbon footprint BBQing those ribs every week?

Fred Flintstone caused global warming.

Even worse is getting locked out of the house by a cat. A cat! Every single night too.

Seventy-three thousand years ago was right after probably the biggest earth event in the last 100,000 years. That is the eruption of Mt. Toba, in Indonesia, which left a crater 18 by 65 miles in diameter. Probably caused nuclear winter, was followed by a major downturn in world temperatures, and may have diminished human population to no more than 5 to 10,000 individuals.

Not to be nit-picky, but if you were walking up the trail, wouldn’t you have reached the 1750 sign first? Otherwise, it implies the glacier GREW between 1750 and 1850 rather than having shrunk steadily over the centuries. Am I missing something?

I thought the same thing. But suppose they were reversed. The Industrial Revolution was hard barely begun during those years and I doubt seriously it would account in any way for the retreat of the glacier during that time

The PBS show also pointed out that before each major Earth climate change event there was a thin “iron layer” in the cave sample that was from Saharan dust storms. And that these major climate shifts were relatively fast: only on the order of decades (50 years).

Recently there was a “red” dust storm in Australia:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/32978412

I do not personally believe we will be able to anything about the climate change itself, except prepare for it. If it can happen that quickly, then we may be in for some more devastating weather phenomena as the earth responds to large temperature swings.
