Actually, there was a guy from my hometown who studied climatology where we both went to college -- and who posed the theory that earth's orbit affected climate. He wrote his master's thesis on the topic.

In 1961.

Interglacials, Milankovitch Cycles, and Carbon Dioxide
Authors: Gerald E. Marsh
(Submitted on 2 Feb 2010 (v1), last revised 11 Feb 2010 (this version, v2))
Abstract: The existing understanding of interglacial periods is that they are initiated by Milankovitch cycles enhanced by rising atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations. During interglacials, global temperature is also believed to be primarily controlled by carbon dioxide concentrations, modulated by internal processes such as the Pacific Decadal Oscillation and the North Atlantic Oscillation. Recent work challenges the fundamental basis of these conceptions.

In other words, this paper says global warming is not caused by Carbon Dioxide.

The above mechanism for glacial to interglacial variation in carbon dioxide concentration is supported by the observation that the rise in carbon dioxide lags the temperature increase by some 800-1000 years—ruling out the possibility that rising carbon dioxide concentrations were responsible for terminating glacial periods.

"There’ve been 20 periods of glacial advance ~ we are about 5,000 years overdue for the 21st period." From what I have read ice ages happen about every 100,000 years and interglacials last about 11,500 years. It's been right about 11,500 years since the beginning of the current interglacial so I am expecting the next ice to start any time.

Thanks for link. [Interglacials, Milankovitch Cycles, and Carbon Dioxide, Authors: Gerald E. Marsh]

Shouldn’t we try to get the debate on another level — beyond falsified data & dishonest email?

I have been emailing congress people with this list:

The current Interglacial, if that's what this is, started about 15,000 years ago. Then it was interrupted by the Younger Dryas event. That lasted about 1500 years and then Earth resumed it's interglacial.

Adjusting your calculations to the true beginning of the current Interglacial, you'll see that we are at least 3500 years overdue.

Remember, the definition of an Interstadial is a period of warming that lasts less than 10,000 years. An interglacial lasts10,000 years or longer. The periods of lengthy glaciation are actually punctuated by interstadials.

How Well Do Scientists Understand How Changes in Earth's Orbit Affect Natural Climate Trends?

On a scale of 1 to 100?
About a 5.

Very few real scientists are engaged in that research.

To hell with these well known long term cycles. Our instant gratification generation only recognizes the last five or ten years as having any relevance.

Sorry, I'd have to register no-sale on this one.

Real ice ages corresponded to real changes in the solar system with cosmic causes and the "little" ice ages including the one which began around the mid 1300s and the one we seem to be entering now correspond to simple fluctuations in the sun's output. I don't see any way to extrapolate the Earth's present orbit backwards and get any sort of an ice age from that process alone.
