Gov. Perry beats Hutchison in Texas GOP primary

AUSTIN, Texas – Riding a wave of growing anti-Washington anger, Texas Gov. Rick Perry easily dispatched Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison and a challenger backed by some in the tea party movement Tuesday to once again become the Republican nominee for the state's top office.

Speaking shortly after Hutchison called him to concede, Perry continued the attack on the nation's capital that powered him past the state's senior senator, slamming Washington on spending, job losses, the heath care debate and for "trying to impose education standards" on Texas.

"From Driftwood, Texas, to Washington, D.C., we are sending you a message tonight: Stop messin' with Texas!" Perry said to a throng of cheering supporters at the famous Salt Lick barbecue restaurant in Driftwood, just outside of Austin.

With more than 90 percent of precincts reporting, Perry led with 51 percent to Hutchison's 30 percent. Perry managed to avoid a runoff even though nearly one in five voters cast ballots for the third candidate — Debra Medina, a GOP party activist who has strong libertarian leanings and supporters in the tea party movement.

Guess we’ll have to see what happens with these props now. Tried to get the voter ID up for a vote last year but one of the Demo Hispanic Senators threatened to shut the house down to prevent it from coming up for a vote. Also the 5th prop had the lowest “for” percentage. Interesting that so many do not want a sonogram before abortion. Plus the fact the largest abortion clinic in the world was just completed in Houston.

Riding a wave of growing anti-Washington anger

Perry is riding this sentiment for re-election. He'll return to his RINO ways soon enough.

Perry was the lesser of the evils in this race with the real challenge in the future being will Perry turn his tough Tenth Amendment talk into tough Tenth Amendment action.....

Perry is the consumate politician. After getting the NAFTA highway exposed and shutdown by the grassroots, he clued in and changed tactics to tap into the populist uprising. He is showing far more intelligence is this area than most of today’s arrogant politicians. Of course it will only last until he is reelected.

Just for effect, Gov. Perry needs to repeat the message from Cut & Shoot Texas.

I suspect some of the resistance on the 5th one, is that it read likejust another example of government sticking it's nose in our business. personally, I think it's a good idea, but not necessarily something that should be mandated by law.

Like today, since the republican primary is over. He'll start running back to the left at breakneck speeds.

Wife was mentioning last night that she's kinda glad Perry got the nod, (though we both voted against), because she doesn't think he'll be able to restrain his grifting ways enough during another term to stay out of prison.

ROTFL. She'll run for reelection to the Senate before she resigns. She's a lying sack.

I do not understand how any “human” could feel
the planned murder of the most helpless is okay.

I'd have to agree with you. For the purposes of the statement of principle that was on the ballot though, I'm not entirely sure that it is the government's place to tell someone that they must have a sonogram, even though the goal is quite clear. i.e., to reduce the number of abortions.  I doubt that it will generally have the intended effects in any case unfortunately.
