Obama's disregard for media reaches new heights at nuclear summit
washingtonpost.com ^ | April 14, 2010 | Dana Milbank

World leaders arriving in Washington for President Obama's Nuclear Security Summit must have felt for a moment that they had instead been transported to Soviet-era Moscow.

They entered a capital that had become a military encampment, with camo-wearing military police in Humvees and enough Army vehicles to make it look like a May Day parade on New York Avenue, where a bicyclist was killed Monday by a National Guard truck.

In the middle of it all was Obama -- occupant of an office once informally known as "leader of the free world" -- putting on a clinic for some of the world's greatest dictators in how to circumvent a free press.

The only part of the summit, other than a post-meeting news conference, that was visible to the public was Obama's eight-minute opening statement, which ended with the words: "I'm going to ask that we take a few moments to allow the press to exit before our first session."

He doesn’t want the press to see real world leaders humiliate him before he gives away the store.

FWIW, a long, long-time law enforcement friend, who now runs an intelligence collecting business with many LE agencies as clients, says the #1 thing LE fears is an assassination. It could be that all these precautions are the choice of various LE agencies.

Looks good on the MSM. They’ve spent years kissing his royal butt and he’s now showing them the contempt they’ve earned through their slavish drooling. Obama has no respect for the media because he knows they’re all neutered lap dogs.

Bush used to get grief for not holding regular press conferences. I think his longest stint was 215 days between them. For Obama, it has been about 265 days. He seems to be afraid of the exposure to unscripted questions.

Funny that this is in the WaPo rag.

But now that he doesn't need them, he's gonna kick em to the side of the road - thugs always do that.

The communique's from the junta begin next.

At the Post egos come first, then politics. It’s a little different at the NYT where ideology is king.

Tweak the Post’s position on the social ladder and there will be hell to pay.

Reporters, even those on the White House beat for two decades, said it was the most restrictive set of meetings they had ever seen in Washington.

LOL!

How in the world did that cyclist get run over. Remember the brouhaha when a motorbike cop ran over someone where Cheney was visiting.

Isn’t this the same lame stream media who thought the closed door back room deals with health care were fine with them?
