Tehran's Other Target: America 2015

National Security: An unclassified Defense Department report says an Iranian missile could strike the U.S. by 2015. If only we were working as hard to defend ourselves as they are to destroy us.

In any discussion of the Iranian nuclear threat, the assumption is always that Tehran's target is Israel. Iran's quite mad president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, has pledged to wipe Israel off the map as part of his grand scheme to usher in the age of the 12th Imam. Tehran may have a bigger fish that it wants to fry, namely us.

"With sufficient foreign assistance, Iran could probably develop and test an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) capable of reaching the United States by 2015," said the 12-page Defense Department report, released Monday, on the "Military Power of Iran," a copy of which Reuters obtained.

There is no shortage of such assistance. A recent report by the CIA's Weapons Intelligence, Nonproliferation and Arms Control Center said production of medium-range missiles remains one of Tehran's "highest priorities" and that China, North Korea and Russia are all helping Iran produce such missiles.

I suspect Iranians will smuggle in a nuke in long before they send one the grown up way...

Iran needs to be informed that there are 1,714 nuclear warheads zeroed in on them. A press of the buttton and you have a green glass paved parking lot the approximate size and shape of the former.

Yes, but remember the muzzie sympathizer in the White House is the one with his finger on the button.

Mr. Ahmadinejad believes he is destined to usher in the age of 12th Imam by creating an apocalypse. He cares not for his country. How will we launch our nukes if an EMP pulse disables our society and all communications? He gets to strike first.

So, the difference between Ahmadinejad and Obama is...???

How will we launch our nukes if an EMP pulse disables our society and all communications? He gets to strike first.

Even without the EMP pulse, would Obama respond?

Pretty amazing. You doubt the will of the resident of the White House to defend this country. And you are right to do so.

That is not going to happen. He will not get our military communications network in that manner.
You can bet your bottom dollar that he has more than a few minuteman missiles aimed at his ass. Then there are the boats and our plane delivered weapons stationed in other parts of the world. TRIAD... It is still here, very alive, and absolutely lethal. The only question is if our commander in chief has enough brains and balls to make the quick and right decision. There is no second place in a nuclear exchange.

Supposedly, our land based nukes are EMP hardened. Even if they're not, our SSBNs will more than take care of any attacker.

Probably not. He’ll either be playing golf, planning stimulus IV, or blaming it on George W, Bush.

THANK YOU, JIMMY CARTER, FOR PULLING THE RUG OUT FROM UNDER THE SHAH, SETTING THE STAGE FOR THESE NUTCASES TO TAKE OVER IRAN.  It's even worse than you're allowing Red China to take over the Panama Canal.  Gee, aren't Democrats wonderful? /sarc

The Paulists say there is nothing to fear from an Ayatollah with a bomb. Don’t worry, be happy.
