Poll: Majority oppose Seattle boycott of Arizona

Sixty percent of Seattleites say the city should continue to do business with companies in Arizona, despite the fact that state has passed a controversial immigration law that most people in the Emerald City oppose, a new poll shows.

The Seattle City Council on Monday unanimously passed a resolution directing departments to refrain from doing new business with firms in Arizona to protest the new law (existing contracts - including a $1 million red light camera deal - are not affected by the boycott).

But according to a KING5/SurveyUSA poll, 60 percent of city residents say Seattle should keep up commerce with enterprises in the Grand Canyon State. Thirty-four percent say the city should boycott, while 6 percent aren't sure. Meanwhile the same survey shows that 55 percent of Seattle residents object to the Arizona measure, while 41 percent support it and 4 percent aren't sure.

The poll of 442 Seattle residents who were familiar with the Arizona law was taken Monday. The margin of error varied by the question asked, but did not exceed 4.8 percent.

KING5/SurveyUSA also sampled opinion in Tacoma. That poll showed that most people supported the Arizona law and wanted the city to continue to engage in commerce with Arizona companies.

There’s no Latino effect in Seattle. Unlike Texas...California...or Florida. It may be liberal...but they really don’t care one way or the other on immigration. If you opened up the gates...the worst that could happen is a bunch of Canadians might move in.

This entire matter is beyond STUPID!

There is NOTHING at all wrong with the law Arizona passed. These people have been worked up over nothing. Sadly, our idiot president continues to ratchet up the misguided anger.

You have got to think Boeing has been on the phone with the Seattle City Council asking them what the Hell do think they are doing? Boeing having operations in Mesa has got to be shaking their heads.

Send a note to Jeff Bezos at Amazon. His assistant reads them and takes action.

I don’t think “the people” have been worked up, but a lot of Obamabots have, yes.

I beg to differ. LOTS of illegals in WA state. I wouldn’t be surprised if WA didn’t have the same law as California, that “immigrants” have to have a green card.
