To: a fool in paradise
I had heard that the primary reason that John Lennon applied for permanent residency in this country was because of the onerous tax burden in the UK for people in his income range. So he was bad-mouthing the US government about Vietnam all the while trying like hell to get residency here so he could keep more of his money.

There is a veritable cottage industry in the UK assisting high-income celebrity types to relocate to more tax-friendly environs. That's why you have people like Roger Moore (Switzerland) and Mick Jagger (Jamaica) looking to bail out of the "motherland".

Even some of the UK politicians have other “official” residence countries. The recent election caused a stir with some members of the Lords being in a “non-dom” status... again, hypocrisy in action -
