Walter Reed FReep #273 - July 9, 2010 - The Blizzard of 2010
July 14, 2010 | Tom the Redhunter

It was mush! mush! the whole way through. Through the snow we went, on and on. Our arms sore from constant shoveling, we didn't give up. Our driveways and streets had to be cleared. No one could get to work and many couldn't even get out of their development. As the days wore on we wondered if it would ever be cleared. Worried that our cable TV and internet would go out, we huddled...

Flashback!

Mr Trooprally's shirt certainly brought those memories back in a hurry.

We got about 35 inches in Loudoun County, which is just northwest of Washington DC On Feb 10, and then another 8 inches a day or two later. We usually don't get 8 inches in an entire year, so yes this certainly set some records.

I shoveled and shoveled and shoveled and shoveled. Then I shoveled some more.

As you can see after shoveling the drifts were at or above the level of my front door

But not to worry, I kept Old Glory flying proud when it was coming down so hard you couldn't even see across the street

The bicep tendon on my right arm still hurts from all the shoveling.

Back to Walter Reed

Ok, the FReep

What a great photo of the American flag with one of our intrepid FReepers !

We held down all four corners proudly as we've done every Friday for 5+ years now.

The Pinkos

The rule established by the Garrison Commander is the the demonstrators of either stripe cannot have their signs or banners on or touching Walter Reed property. This works to our advantage since at our regular locations we don't put up anything even touching the fence.

However, the commies of Code Pink like to put their signs and such in the semi-circle by the official Walter Reed sign, and this is not allowed. To prevent this, the Garrison Commander has the WR cops (not MPs) put up a barrier every Friday evening. Sometimes, though, the Pinkos violate it by putting their signs in the forbidden area anyway. When they do, we call the WR cops on them who come by and make them remove them.

Here you can see where they've put their signs inside the yellow tape marking the no-go line

Mrs Trooprally called the cops, they came by, and made them remove the signs. A small but symbolic victory!

Pinko Perfidity

It's bad enough that they disgrace a U.S. Army facility with their signs, but recently they tried to bring flowers inside to the troops. Three months ago the Moonbats tried to get into WR and were refused as it was memorial day weekend . The commie came out and gave the flowers to FReeper Cindy-True-Supporter, who took them home and fixed them up. She brought them back this Friday and brought them inside.

There was no bus tonight, so we packed up as soon as the moonbats were gone. We arrive before them and leave after them, so as not to take any chances that they will be at the entrance to the hospital.

God bless our troops, they so do much for us.

Come join us every Friday night between the hours of 6:30pm to approx 9:30pm.

Thanks Tom, I missed seeing you last week when I could not get there.

I love the re-visit to the Winter of 2010 and the Global Warming that caused it! You again made us proud of the Freepers who kept the corners filled through that time!

See you soon...Friday?

Yep, I appreciate hot better than cold. Surveying in the cold and trying to write notes in a small lined field notebook with cold fingers is no fun. When I first started surveying I didn’t have the proper clothing for an 8 hour day in the cold. I got two minor cases of hypothermia.

Yea, I learned the hard way. While the fingers still get cold I have the insulated boots and layers of clothing, ski caps and face coverings. These are the same clothing I wear when out at Walter Reed and Olney.

But being able to pick ‘n choose the days we go out, I can stay inside on the real sub-freezing days. And at WR or Olney, the times are short and there is always a warm car close by.
