Pelosi: GOP can't win by skewering her - POLITICO Live: August 01, 2010
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) says Republicans may amuse voters by painting her as horror-flick monster destroying the country, but they aren't going to win elections by beating up on her.
Asked to respond to a conservative group's animated TV ad portarying her as a 50-foot-tall "power-hungry goliath, defying the will of the American people," Pelosi said the tactic failed miserably when it was tried in a special election in Pennsylvania in May and will also lack traction in the national elections this fall.
"They tried this," Pelosi said in an interview airing Sunday on ABC's "This Week." "They fully expected to win the race and we won by 8.5 points. Because this is funny, it attracts attention, but they have nothing to say about what they want to go for, what they want to do is privatize Social Security. And as they have said, their agenda, if they win, is to go to the exact agenda of the previous administration and people will look with fondness on the Bush administration....We welcome that campaign."
Pelosi also charged that GOP dissent from Democratic legislative efforts wasn't due to a principled disagreement, but because Republicans are acting on behalf of "special interests."
"The Republicans are here for the special interests, we're here for the people's interests," she said. "This isn't about inter-party bickering. This is about a major philosophical difference as to whose side you're on. You don't like to think that. We come here to find our common ground....I wish it were not so stark. I wish the elections weren't so necessary for us to win. I really do, because it should be -- there should be more common ground."
If its going to fail, why say anything?
We don’t want to skewer her...we want her tarred and feathered and ridden out of town on a rail.
Literally.
I don’t believe anything like this from Politico.
What Pelosi meant to say was that they were there for the People’s business, the same way that the Chinese government, or Castro or Kim Jong-Il are(she just forgot her capitalization). And you’re right. Her expertise is lying, cheating and stealing from those who have entrusted her with power is becoming legendary.
and has never been about doing the “people’s” work...
Still running against Bush, I see.
Exactly. If the tactic would result in Republicans wasting money to no effect, the smart thing to do would be to let them waste their money.
Ridicule, expertly done, is lethal to Democrats.
This old hag has an ego to rival her facelifts. “You’ll regret it if you pick on me......!
‘Republicans are acting on behalf of “special interests.”’
“Special interests”? The entire Democrat party is made up exclusively of special interests!
I disagree. You can run against her record without demonizing her personally.I wish every GOP candidate running now would start calling this the Pelosi/Reid Recession. They can run against Obama in two years; this election should be a referendum on the the DEMs control of Congress. They have controlled every committee in the House and Senate since Jan 2007 yet they blame Bush as though they were innocent bystanders. I want to hear everyday from every candidate how miserably Pelosi/Reid have failed. Just a couple of examples: When they took control the DOW was at 12,378, unemployment was 4.6%, the federal deficit was $162 Billion, and the total debt was $8.7 Trillion. Way to go Nancy! Heckuva job Harry!
Hahahahahahaha! That was *ME*! That was (ME*!

“They fully expected to win the race...”
¿Pennsylvania, really? Of course everybody expects to win while running, but come on... I’d have to check the numbers, but I think 8.5 points there was a bit of advantage for R (compared to usual).
Don’t forget the D in Pennsylvania ran as a conservative.
Makes me wonder if she figures the dims are going to cheat with their stacked acorn deck of mickey mouse voters.
JournOlists at work! LOL.....we believe every word coming from that bunch of losers. Sure we do!!
I would pay good money to see her face when she is replaced as Speaker of the House by a Republican.
Even more to see that new Republican Speaker of the House if he had the balls to place her new office in the basement of the House Office Building.
