We have a local Interfaith Alliance that runs health and dental clinics for the poor. They portray themselves as a religious group but in reality they are simply a group whose main goal is to demonstrate a diversity of religious thought through their lack of religious beliefs. They offend no one because they stand for nothing. It’s not even a real charity. I mean, it’s just a tax write off for the doctors who participate. I tried to volunteer once and was told no thank you because the doctors bring their own staff and don’t accept volunteers.

I was stationed in the Bay Area back in the early 80’s with the Navy and at that point Treasure Island (TI) was used as a Naval base. As a matter of fact I did my fire control training on TI. I suppose the base closed during Clinton's term of office and what happened after is someone from the Bay Area to follow up with. Sounds to me like it got run down and needed a little “stimulus.”

Some Republicans certainly have dared the Dems to a political fight over this, and I'm glad they have. Unlike Reid, Pelosi can go way out in left field without losing votes for herself, but she is not helping other Dems.
