Swedish govt seeks re-election amid far-right rise

STOCKHOLM – Swedes voted for a new parliament on Sunday with polls showing the center-right government heading for a historic second term unless an Islam-bashing far-right group spoils its majority. Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt's center-right coalition has been boosted by popular tax cuts and healthy public finances that stand out in debt-ridden Europe, and polls suggest a clear victory over the Social Democrat-led opposition.

That would mark a shift in Swedish politics — no center-right government has ever been re-elected after serving a full term in a country dominated since the 1930s by the left-wing Social Democrats.

Reinfeldt's parliamentary majority, however, is under threat from the Sweden Democrats, a small anti-immigration party hoping to play kingmaker in the 349-seat legislature. The Sweden Democrats, who demand sharp cuts in immigration and have called Islam Sweden's biggest foreign threat since World War II, are seeking their first seats in parliament.

The last polls before the election suggested Reinfeldt's majority could remain by a single seat. But growing support for the far-right could lead to a hung Parliament, because both blocs have ruled out governing with the Sweden Democrats....

Large waves of immigration from the Balkans, Iraq and Iran have changed the demography of the once-homogenous Scandinavian country, where one in seven residents is foreign-born. The Sweden Democrats say immigration has become an economic burden that drains the welfare system....

After dominating Swedish politics for decades, the Social Democrats plunged to a record-low 35 percent in the previous election and were forced to join forces with the smaller Green and Left parties to have any chance of regaining power....

How ironic that the far-left socialists, who are not identified in this story, seem to be hoist on their own petard. Also interesting how even the famously -- some would say suicidally -- tolerant Swedes are getting fed up with all the Izlamic BS.

Question: Can islamics become Swedish citizens and vote? Hopefully not. Good luck Sweden.

The Sweden Democrats that are referenced as “far right” are really not. Besides their main agenda, which is immigration, they are really just run-of-the-mill socialists - tax increases and big government nanny-state. Their biggest voting bloc are defectors from the left-wing Social Democrat party. Regardless of how I feel about immigration, I will never vote for a socialist - and most right-wing voters in Sweden feel the same way.

I wish the MSM would stop equating anti-immigration with “right wing” by definition.

This article is typical anti-TEA-party American reporter's bias smeared over Swedish politics. Political possibilities are editorials, not news reports.

However, it's possible that the report is true, as Swedes are the Goldilocks people ("just right," or lagom rather than "great" or "exceptional"). One must balance this instinctive moderation against the fact that even the Swedes have had to admit the lack of assimilation by Muslim guest workers.

"immigration has become an economic burden that drains the welfare system...."

The bitter truth that Marxists refuse to concede is that socialism works only when it can depend on capitalism.

Socialism feeds at a trough supplied by capitalism.

If it were not for the capitalist world, the Swedish socialist system could not sustain itself.

The Swedish welfare system exists only at the cost of strictly protected national boundaries and a culturally homogeneous society. If those fail, the socialist system fails. Circumstances will force Swedes to come to grips with this.

"The Swedish welfare system exists only at the cost of strictly protected national boundaries and a culturally homogeneous society."

Bingo!!

Here's what I wrote on the Far-Right party poised to take first seats in Sweden's parliament thread:

"This childish "far-right" crud is old, old, old.

Sweden is a small country that was ethnically homogeneous. As a kind of tribal, familial society, where values and standards are very similar, you build up the world's model for a welfare State going back to the 1930s.

Then it becomes government policy to import people, who are ethnically very different, culturally indigestible and economically parasitical.

What could go wrong?

The foreign immigrants ARE taking the benefits from Swedish grandmothers. The foreign immigrants DO commit rapes, murders and other crimes that the Swedes did not. The so-called 'immigrants' are NOT assimilating into Swedish society, they're remaining separate and they're keeping their retrograde third world Muslim cultures and they have created no-go areas in Sweden, where Swedish police and firefighters can't (or won't go).

This was all done by government policy. Now the government and their media goons scream racism.

I'm just surprised at the forbearance of the Swedes and why it has taken them so long. "

I thought that might be the case.

I found it humorous that Thilo Sarrazin in Germany is an SPD member, yet when the press talks about him forming a new party...it’s always far right. It seems political identity labels by the press are always misconstrued, whereby if you are anti-immigrant you must be right wing, anti-country...obviously a tolerant left winger. There is never a mention of the true meter of political leanings, regarding taxation, role of the federal government etc.

Sverigedemokraterna isn’t a far-right party at all. They may be tough on immigration issues, but apart from that they’re all over the place, taking their voters from the far left to the far right. The party itself originates from the white supremacy / neo-nazi groups in the 80’s and 90’s but has over time shed most of those elements to fit into mainstream politics. I say “most” because in some local governments they have representatives that are “true to their roots”. I’d call their program “National Socialism Light” and would never consider voting for them.
