Interesting, I was just drinking Sumatra coffee this morning.
Magnitudes are all over the place on this one. I’ve seen as high as 7.8.
Isn’t this the same location as the last big tsunami that hit over there?
The boxer day earthquake was 9.0 if I recall.
Uh oh
Good stuff, Sumatra coffee.
Around a 9.0, maybe a 9.1 or so.
Interestingly, the tsunami risk is related to the magnitude - but not always directly.
There was a large tsunami in the Pacific a couple decades ago, but the quake that caused it just wasn’t that big. Maybe a 7.0 or so.
But what happened was that something like 50,000 square miles of ocean floor just decided to fall - all at once - like 4 feet!
And in a few seconds, tens if not hundreds of cubic miles of ocean water was displaced.
Surf’s up!!!
Yep- it was bigger than this one. This is no slouch though. Not getting any other info on tsunami though.
Still not on Fox. We scooped em again.
FR is always ahead :)
Hope our FRiends in Indonesia are safe.
Don’t forget the giant rats.
Bang in the middle of India and Australia.
Thanks for the ping.

Per FOX:
DEVELOPING: Indonesia’s earthquake agency has issued a tsunami warning following a magnitude 7.5 earthquake. The tremor struck off the coast of southern Sumatra.
According to a bulletin issued by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, the warning is in effect for Indonesia only, not for the wider Indian Ocean region.
According to the bulletin, a local tsunami would only affect coasts less than 62 miles (100 kilometers) from the quake’s epicenter, about 150 miles (240 km) from Padang, Sumatra, Indonesia.
The quake struck at a depth of 20.5 miles (33 km), classified as a shallow one by the USGS.
Rodents of Unusual Size?
